Just about to buy some Hans dampfs super gravity from crc.
Not cheap at nearly £50 but not seen them any cheaper.

Just thought I'd check bike discount and to my delight they are only £30.

My question is are these exactly the same tyres or are bike discount selling some inferior / OEM type product.
Just can't get my head around the price difference.

Nope, genuine. All the German shops are cheap for Schwalbe. I bought some Thunder Burts a couple of weeks ago from one of them, can't honestly remember who.

Yeah, I've had a couple of HDs from them over the past two years, at almost half the UK price. They've been the real deal both times, excellent tyres. I'm not sure how the German retailers do it but you can get some insanely good prices from them on some stuff that costs much more over here even from CRC/Wiggle etc, even with the extra postage.

German company innit.

How often do you lament how cheap things are in the US, but the taxes/shipping put you off. Obviously that's not an issue in the EU, so stuff is just cheap. Weak Euro helps.

That's me stocking up on tyres then. Them being cheap is actually costing me more in the short term lol.
I was going to spend £49 on 1 tyre from crc but at these prices it would be rude not to buy more and save on postage costs.

2 magic Mary's and 2 Hans dampfs will do nicely.

That's a very good point. How come we don't get super cheap Hope/Orange kit in the UK, though, hmm? 😉

Apparently there's some sort of jiggery-pokery going on with the German equivalent of VAT in the outdoor industry, I bet that helps knock ~20% off the price right there.

I find it very odd that Germany is a source of cheap stuff. My day job is dealing with parallel imports in another industry entirely, and usually DE is the country with the *highest* prices, even higher than rip-off GB. Frequently UK traders export to them rather than vice versa...

In Belgium last week I bought a Schwalbe Marathon Greenguard and 4 Michelein inner tubes for €40. The tyre alone in the UK would have been £25

I was on day one of a 6 day tour and had a big issue with the rear tyre and some glass. A kindly Frenchman took me to the nearest bike shop. When you're in that position, you just buy the best tyre they've got and get the hell on with it, trust me! 🙂

I reckon the germans sell schwalbe for what they're worth. The UK distributors know british consumers think expensive things are better than cheap things so they put the price up.

S'ok, I was joking, by the time you add the tubes in I suspect you're within a couple of Euros!

Yip... I've had a set of Nobby Nics off 'em. The real deal, but about half the price.

Cashback!

There's at least one LBS owner that I know of who's miffed about the local Wilkinson selling Schwalbe tyres for less than he pays for them through official UK distribution.

A Racing Ralph and Ikon arrived today from Bike24. Ralph was a particularly good buy at 34Eur for a Pacestar Snakeskin. Ordered last weekend, dispatched Monday, travelled efficiently thru the DHL network then today failed 20m away from my desk - store man was on his tea break! 🙁 Quick call to DHL and the chap arranged for me to pick up from the depot as soon as the van got back. Now on the bike being shaped by an inner tube ready for tubeless tomorrow. I shall play at the weekend! 🙂

People pay £50 for tyres?!?

I bought some of those Nobby Nics that Binners recommended.
🙂
Sidecar compound, tissue walled, abominations with all the grip and livelyness of a dead kitten.

Schwalbe are awful.

Great shop though.
😀

matlockmeat - Wiggle were selling Hans Dampf SGs for £32 each in January, so it is possible to get that price in the UK, but rare. I just happened to be looking on Wiggle at the right time and bought them quickly before they sold out. I even managed to get PaceStar for the back and VertStar for the front. I'm soooooooo pleased with them !
