Being fairly new to the whole mountain biking thing, this may be a bone question, but using my questionably logic, I'm assuming that replacing the 180mm discs on the front of my Whyte 629 with bigger ones (203mm?) will give me more stopping power?
If my logic is close to accurate, what do I need? Assuming a 203mm disc, but I'm guessing I need a spacer for the caliper - but what size?
yes as you have a larger circumference to brake on
you need a 203 mounting adapter but it depends on your fork and brake type
you get IS and post mount

then the same with the calipe - it will almost certainly be post mount - ie flat
you then need an adapter which works with your brake - best to stay with the same make IME as say Hope wont work with Shimano
Shimano post [ brake] to IS [fork]

The forks agave post mounts and the calipers look flat too (Avid Elixir 1s) - so do I just add a 23mm spacer?
Cheers for the response

yes one of these basically for 203 mm disc
Post to post does not have clearance issues iirc and i think i have run Avid on Shimano
Check your forks can take that size rotor as it will have a maximum size [ probably 203 but best to be sure]
Just checked the RockShox site and it looks like the maximum disc size for my forks (XC30) is 180mm so I guess that plan is out of the window then!
At least you wont die then 8)
The way I ride, anything is possible.......
