Long story short I had my first ride on clipless pedals today so decided the blue route would be a smart choice just to get used to everything. I mainly ride red/black trails and am a technical trail leader with the army, I ride a 2009 fuel ex8 which I like to keep clean and in good condition and the same with all my gear.

As the trail splits of from the red there were 2 guys on old steel hardtails sitting having a brew by the fence. I had headphones in so I assume they thought I couldn't hear their comment off "look at this d**k all the gear and no idea only riding the ****in blue ha ha ha"

Now I have no idea why I didn't stop and confront them but what drives these people into thinking they are better than anyone else on the trail or that I am any less of a rider because i have a nice clean bike and gear. rant over

yeah, people are knobs. i just ignore it. my bike is mine because i like it, and it's set up/built the way I like it. i don't care what anyone else thinks about it, or the clothes i choose to wear whilst riding. no point stopping/confronting them, just enjoy the rest of your ride i say!

Take satisfaction from the fact that they had only got that far and already needed a break. I bet they also threw their empty bottles on the ground afterwards 8)

Some folk are jerks. Ignore them.

Or use your army training and make them the filling of a couple of shallow graves...

Rab you should be grateful it wasnt a bloke who has never married, wears a dress to work, a funny hat, believes in fairy tales written down in a big book, and who only works on a sunday, says its moraly wrong for all sections of society to be married.thats gone to 4 pages.

Havent you seen the sign at the start of LLandegla,

Headphones must not be worn while riding in the forest.

rab5474, we've done black, red and blue at Llandegla and to be honest we had a right laugh on the blue...it's quite fast and flowing!!!
Don't give a flying F*** what others think, I do stuff because I enjoy it, not to get the acceptance of others, so if blue's what you want to do....you do it!

Screw them, more than likely jealousy, I had a great ride at Gisburn today and the two chaps I saw had anise polite chat. No need to be like that we all clearly have a common interest! TBH I think most of us like to have a nice clean bike, functions better and the components last longer!

@cyinac-al no sorry no team lycra, but i dont get the whole ATGNI, i rode a POS carrera for a 6 months and saved my pennies and got a good deal on a secondhand trek which i now take good care off, i wash my gear after every ride as i like to wear clean clothes (must be part of basic training coming through again). clearly all off this combined means that I or anyone else that likes shiny bikes and clean clothes clearly should't ride anything other than the carpark.

as regards to headphones i honestly cant say i have ever seen the sign about not wearing them

The guys were out of order, but ignore them. TBF if I saw a guy on a flash shiney bike on a blue run I might think it but I wouldn't say it.

I ride red blue and black at Llan on a 2008 ex8

I'm not bothered by what people think of me, my bike or my kit.

Just out to enjoy the ride, and the coffee and cake at the end !

Anyways cant see a better way of spending your pennies.

This is why i don,t ride there anymore.
The place has overdosed on T...ers.
For some reason that place makes me cringe.
I did used to love the place a few years ago.

Rab 5474

Think I passed you. Where you wearing sunglasses as well?
I was on a blue cove G spot.

Last time I road Llandegla was just before the new board walk section was opened. The route seems a lot harder now.

I was having a conversation with some mates the other day on a smimilar kinda theme. That being our sport is not inclusive, it's rather cliquey and you get alot of rude and/judgemental people. I snowboard quite a bit and that's the same.

Kinda weird that fellow cyclists judge on appearance, when anybody who doesn't cycle thinks our sport is kinda weird.

This is what I think- I've only been to Llandegla once but I imagine after say 2 or 3 laps of the red and/or black a quick lap of the blue would probably be alright just to wind things down.

I'd never think otherwise about some guy I saw riding the blue on an expensive bike, I would just assume he would be mixing it up a bit.

It's not just mtbing though, people are like this across all walks of life.

The thing is though mtbing must be one activity where this kind of attitude is called for the least- it's just riding a bike, it's a pretty common activity. It's not like you've reached some kind of zen-level of base-jumping or mountaineering after 25 years because you can do the red or black at Llandegla.

Llandegla is one of the busiest trail centres so it's stands to reason there will be more knobs there but not necessarily a higher percentage than anywhere else. For what it's worth the vast majority of riders I've met there have been sound but then it's the same for everywhere else I've been. The new stuff there is great though so even with a few morons and groups milling about it's still worth a trip.

Rab - I think Llandegla is an excellent trail centre, the new sections in particular are great, however there do seem to be a higher than normal amount of tossers. Don't let them win! Ride on in the knowledge that they are the ones with the problem, not you.

Bloody hell. I was knackered after once round the red/black route. Must be an age thing

I wouldn't worry too much- I had to stop doing anymore at Llandegla because...my little finger on my left hand was in so much pain ๐Ÿ˜• ๐Ÿ˜†

Never had this experience anywhere else before or since but Llandegla must be a particularly finger-punishing course. Maybe they could use that in their marketing stuff. It genuinely did really kill though.

Yeah the law of averages will dictate that the busier the trail the more tossers there will be. I guess posted this in the hope that one or both the offending parties would read it, @ pmcclure were you wearing a blue jacket

They were probably just in awe of your rampant gnar-ness-ness. It can make folk nervous & say daft stuff. Also, they may have had small menhoods.

Me, I'd have probably stopped & made a joke of it. Most folk are ok if you spare a few mins for a chinwag.

Old steel hardtails? Sneering at other people? Almost certainly STW forum users.

Surprising they weren't on Cyclocross bikes (because apparently that's the best bike for Llandegla), or fatbikes (except of course they would never be seen dead at a popular trail centre) ๐Ÿ™‚

Black jacket, white helmet & blue camelback. Passed you (I think) somewere between the bird hide and rollercoater. A couple of lads in track suits and not wearing helmets were stopped having a fag just before I saw you.

TBH I used to ride there week in week out and never met any tossers(maybe because I'm one of them?? ๐Ÿ˜ฏ )

But the amount of sh1te left lying around the trails confirms that they are there

Did you miss the smiley? Who's the grumpy one again? Bit touchy are we? ๐Ÿ˜‰

I don't despise anyone, (not that keen on people who act all smug and superior though).

If that is all that you have to moan about then smile and be happy with your lot. People are people, some are nice and some are not. Enjoy times with the nice ones and ignore the others.

To quote a wise man - you may feel a slight sting. That's pride ****ing with you. **** pride. Pride only hurts, it never helps.

If you had stopped and told them

I am a technical trail leader with the army

They probably wouldn't have kept straight faces and it wouldn't have helped the situation at all.

And there's the problem. A combination of brittle ego and envy is the cause and it happens in all walks of life. Best alter your expectations and avoid these kinds of people IMO, because there are also plenty of generous spirited folk about.

Some advice I read: "If someone is not encouraging you, they are wrong and you can ignore them". ๐Ÿ˜€
