I will be based near Penrith over NY and taking the bike.
How hideous are the north Lakes right now in terms of getting a decent ride in?
If I wanted to do a 15-20 miler where's going to be the best option? Borrowdale Bash out of the question?
Thanks - and sorry if you're Lakes-based and have been hit 😥
Bash was OK last weekend, but definitely wear socks that stay warm when wet - your feet will be underwater on several occasions.
And watch out for the new rut on the descent to Rosthwaite.
Watendlath bridge is out I think, so the Bash may need modifying. Ullswater Lakeshore path and Ullswater fells are all good. Landslip blocking the Haweswater road just before the end. Not sure Glenridding yha is accessible by car either, in case you're thinking of Helvellyn. Whinlatter South lower half closed for maintenance. Lonscale fell loop affected by collapsed railway bridge over Greta (detour needed). That's all I can think of off the top of my head! I'd go for Ullswater lakeshore and Boredale hause/Beda Fell personally. Short but very tech, you can always 'lollipop' it by starting/finishing at Pooley Bridge to increase the mileage.
Sorry slightly hijack thisnthread but my guess is posters will be lakes riders,
Anybody give me heads up for the Kentmere area, fancy garnburn,/nan bield day tomorrow but that again depends on the localised flooding
Thanks 🙂
@stevedoc Kentmere trails all good if a little washed out. Staveley only accessible from the North bypass turn off by car. Lower nan bield will be boggy, as usual in winter 🙂
Thanks - guessing that means Back O'Skiddaw is a no-no too then?
@Thekettle, thank you, I guess Garburn and a half run round Sandgil might be in order;)
Nice northshore Cha****ng! @stevedoc there's also a closed bridleway running South from Sadgill parallel to the road. Easily avoided by tarmac.
Rode the Bash earlier today (inc Walla Crag) all fine and ridable, few more deep ruts here and there and a bit more water about than usual, temporary wooden bridge is finished and open.
Was at Skiddaw House last weekend, still all rideable, bit of a landslide after Lonscale but still passable.
Back o Skiddaw's fine.
Currently staying just outside Penrith - quite chilly this morning. Just popped outside to see quite a bit of snow on Cross Fell - anyone know if there's any snow in the Lakes themselves?
