[Closed] Best place to get my brompton rear hub fixed after lbs failed

Hi all,

Have a 6 speed Brompton which is used every day to get me to and from work Approx 10 miles a day for 3 years - anyway after replacing chain the two rear sprockets seemed the hub (think its a Sturney Archer upated labelled BSR) must be causing the slippage LBS relubed the hub twice but no joy They suggest replacing hub and wheel at a cost of 142 quid

I commute every day into London so thinking tomorrow would drop off with who ever you recommend to see if new hub is really my only option

Symptoms are slippage of usually first gear - one revolution then resolves but makes pulling out of junctions a but too exciting for me

Any recommendations aprreciated

Cheers

MC

Whereabouts in London is work/commute?

I know a few very good spanner-wranglers in town, and would be happy to recommend if the location fits. Either near arrival station (And you could Boris Bike it for a day) or near work.

So you DID have the sprockets replaced?

There's got to be lots of decent Bromtpon dealers in the smoke.

There are loads of great Brompton dealers, this is true. The number of great Sturmey-wranglers is rather lower, though. ๐Ÿ™‚

And yes replaced the two external sprockets which are used for the "low high range" gear via a derailleur but not the internal Sturney bits - bike shop guy said they weren't warn - to be fair he did take a apart and rebuild twice

Damn. My Sturmey-wranglers are a little out of your way, I'm afraid! SW1 or Holborn way, so maybe too far from you. (Unless you're just over the moat in Lambeth, and the SW1 version might help)

Phoenix Cycles in Battersea is a bit out of your way but he is the best Brompton man in my view in London. Complete curmudgeon but funny with it.
