Can anyone recommend the best place for bike insurance as I am not able to cover my bike under the home policy? I have noticed companies like Evans etc doing it but want to know where is recommended and where people have had sucessful claims should the worst happen? I take it these policies cover you at trail centres etc as long as the bike is locked on a suitable grade lock?
Thanks for your help. 🙂
I would honestly consider self-insuring...none of the bike specific policies are what you would call comprehensive. You'd have to bend over backwards to ensure your bike was covered. They are also very expensive at around 10% of the bikes value per year.
They won't cover you at trail centres if you want to leave your bike locked to a bike rack or inside a car...it would have to be locked to something like a signpost.
I would change your home insurance to M&S!
I self-insured too, until I realised that M&S Home contents cover would insure all my stuff home and away, for the same price I'd been previously paying for just the home contents.
And based upon the cost of bike insurance, if you've a decent bike(s) probably just worth moving to M&S now.
I second the M&S home insurance. 🙂 You only have to declare an item worth over £4000. and its got no specified contents cover value.
enables you to cover multiple sub 4 grand bikes at home and away (with accidental damage) for a couple of hundred pounds!
EDIT: as well as covering the rest of the house contents!
Sorry for sounding V stupid. By self insuring you mean insure the home contents myself?
The issue I have is that my bike is kept at my mum's(I do not live there but she has storage space) and she does not want to mess about with her current insurance etc. She is a very stubborn lady, even when I say I will pay any uplift and part of her original amount.
