[Closed] best bike for a 5 year old?

He has a balance bike and is comfortable with it. He doesn't need stabilizers but it would need to be light and strong, with good brakes. Not fussed about brand but would rather not spend too much either.

Any recommended bikes your kids like?

just bought my 5yo a 2nd hand spesh hotrock 16" wheel off ebay from. back pedal coaster brake that he sussed fairly quickly so has the confidence knowing he can stop safely.
£20.
I expect to get that back when I sell so free riding (so that's where the term came from )

Isla Bike Beinn (small) - 20" wheel - life is too short to ride a shyt bike. Would you ride a shyt bike?

Seriously; I thought the Beinn would be too big for my daughter (turned 5 in January), but the chap from Isla bikes was spot on with his recommendation. I originally wanted the CNOC 16 but was, thankfully, talked out of it.

Depends a lot on the type of riding you envisage your lad doing. If its easy XC and general pootling on good tracks then the isla bike would be ideal. If he is likely to want to do harder stuff (rocks, little drops, jumps) then the spesh hotrock 20 or the scott voltage 20.

My son broke an isla bike but his hotrock has been indestructible.

My nearly 5 year old rides an immaculate Carrera Luna 16 that we ppicked up off ebay for £16.She flies along on it,great little bike.
I`d advocate buying the best you can secondhand.Totally pointless buying new as they will scuff and scratch it in no time. You normally recoup most of the caost at resale too.
My kids are riding,Carrera,Dawes,Giant and GT bikes.
All good.
I want to like Isla bikes but very spendy even if you do get good resale.

isla or used, both good calls.

bought a new isla bein 20 for my boy when he was 5, great bike (not so keen on the twist grip gears and the mech has always been a devil to keep in tune).

he's now getting just about too tall for it, this time i'll be looking for a used bike or a build up from a cheap frame of crc.

My wee man is 5 and we got him a new ridgeback mx20. I think retail they are a little Cheaper than Isla as well and is an awesome bike. Depends what he s doing as well. My nephew stays in Glasgow and his Isla beinn 20 is awesome for round parks but not so good round ae green
