I have £1000 worth of bike to work vouchers in my hotl ittle hands but I have not got a cle which bike to get! They are Evans vouchers BTW. I just grabbed the max amount of bike to work vouchers before the dealine and now I am left wondering what to go for...

I have already a Bboardman team carbon purchased on the scheme two years ago as well as an old Klien Attitiude V, single speed converted alu frame crosser, and two steel hard tail singlespeed MTBs.

I went itno the local bike shop who were a Evans partner and they were steering me down a £2k Giant carbon TCR but this would mean another £1k of my money in the pot and I am not sure it is going to be a massive improvement on the Boardman?

I was inspired by a post on here looking at really nice hybrids at around £1k (whyte sterling etc) as a commuter as let's face it that's what the vouchers are supposed to be for!

Any ideas would be appreciated 🙂

Erm, dont bother at all. Apparently the bike to work scheme has now gone to pot as you end up paying full whack rather than saving yourself 40% like you used to.

hallelujah - someone contemplating using the bike 2 work tax break for their intended purpose!

Are they still worth using though, I though it was a close call these days.

Its only of use if you are after a bike on finance, then it is pretty good. Otherwise buy one in the sale for cash.

Thanks David but I have already got the vouchers so am committed...might as well as much as I can out of it...

I have not got a hybrid so may be a good commuter...I have been using my alan cross singlespeed but it has no mudguard mounts so can be wet in winter. The commute is 5 miles in and 10 miles home (avoiding a steep hill).

The 12 payments are spread out over 12 monthly pay checks so hardly noticeable 🙂

What about a cyclocross bike then?

I have an old alan cross framed single speed (converted with chain tensioner) which I love. The frame is sweet and I do generally enjoy SS but not exclusively so (3 bikes out 5 are SS).

So yes a new crosser would be cool...maybe a geared one?

Thats nonsense. Most schemes now use longer loan terms, not payment terms' to reduce the pay back amount.

VAT is to be added to repayments from 1st Jan 2012 😯

I think if you are after a flat bar commuter then the Whyte bikes look tidy.
