Looking for a quality tube for my commuter, durability > weight. my Schwalbe 21A 140g tube is leaking slowly on the front but doing fine at the rear, not sure it's the best pick. Not a fan of pumping it up once a week.

If there's air coming out at that rate then you have a leak.

A patch will weigh less than 110g

Yeah I need to look into it, pump it up and submerge? It's only 15 psi pr week.

Surely the two possible answers are:
A) Tubeless. Far more reliable and lighter than lightweight tubes.
B) WTF?? It's a commuter bike WGAS about a few grammes on a commuter bike..? Your priorities are wrong!

🙂

A) Lol. Tubeless leaks air more than any tubed system except for latex. Flats are a non issue and weight difference is negligible. Plus you gotta replace the goop inside every few months. Tubeless is ridiculous for a commuter unless you're commuting through spike strips.
B) I wrote weight was NOT a priority, heavy tubes are already under 250 grams! Question is what's best.

See that tube behind the counter in the LBS with the right diameter and valve - that's the right one unless it's a maxxis DH tube.

I suggest you have more of a look at tubeless as these assertions are a bit away from fact. Most tubeless setups need a few pumps of air every few weeks. Most tubes setups are the same. Sealant needs a top up a few times a year, a 5 minute job.

Errr,yeah, you're doing it wrong.
2 bikes on tubeless, on my less used bike I replaced the fluid when I replaced the tyres, which was after about a year.
I top up the air maybe every fortnight, less often if I use the bike more.
I've had a fair few punctures on my commute bike, I can't wait for the tyres to start wearing out so I can justify tubeless. Oh, and is seem to have to top that bike up every couple of weeks as well.

I'm not saying you must dump the tubes for fear of baby Robin slayage, just that your preconceptions are, well, they're bollocks.

Nope, not bollocks.

Precondition 1: I don't get punctures with tubes and I use tires that take about 2-3 years to wear out.

So in my case: tubeless is more expensive, a lot more faffing about with refilling gunk and inflating tires every week or two compared to every 2 months with good tubes. Literally no benefit other than "improved feel", which I'm not sure is anything but placebo.

So fine, tubes work for you, it's all good 🙂

But again, I repeat, the stuff I quoted above is not aligned with either my experience of tubeless, or that of anyone else I know that uses it.

Fwiw I don't notice the 'feel' on the road either. I'm not that finely tuned.
