Is this doable? From what I've read it's a dull mtb ride, nice scenery, 90% fire road, all of which are tip top qualifications for a good gravel ride!
Do it clockwise* and you've a carry out of Glen Tilt regardless. A couple of boggy bits after Fealar too. Other than that I think you'd be fine.
* awaits the anti-clockwise adherents.
Do it anticlockwise.
Unless you like a long tarmac downhill after 35 miles of offroad.
See...
Did it clockwise but reckon anti-clock would be better - longtime since I've done it but reckon it's perfect for a gravel bike, beautiful mountain Beinn a Ghlo.
All those routes out of Storer, Henniker etc from the 90s are spot on for a gravel bike as they were all done on rigid xc mtb bikes.
I can see your point @scotroutes - I've only ever done it ACW and I'm not sure what clockwise gives you.
The hardest part - at least anti clockwise, probably the same other way - is the navigation around the track end at Shinigag. We've always headed to the track end then hiked up to find the path, which takes a while. Never thought to explore the route that heads more NE.
Another vote for anti-clockwise, and put up with a probable carry down into Glen Tilt. The finish down the tilt would be great on a gravel bike.
I've done it a few times on a mountain bike and would never describe it as boring! Certainly not technical mountain biking though for the most part.
yeah, I always approach the descent into Tilt (ACW) thinking "this time I'll make it". then bottle it. Love the involving bit just past Fealar Lodge (works both ways I would think).
