Hello,
Time to treat myself to a proper press for getting bearings in/out. Main pivot on the Stinky is driving me potty with my usual bench-vice/weird socket adapters arrangement.
What's everyone using and is it any good? I'm looking for one which will do all sorts of sizes, Stinky pivots, hub bearings, freewheels, maybe smaller van ones too. Don't mind spending a few quid extra on something really good which will last. The vice is PITA on occasion but I've never bought the proper tool before as I keep thinking I won't use it much and then keep wishing I had when I next try to do some.
Cheers.
Good selection and quality from here: https://www.bearingprotools.com/
I have a rapid racer kit, buy the presses I need them.
RRP one too, and add the relevant press kits in as needed.
It is probably too small for most vehicle stuff though.
I think SirHC might have it, no thinking required. Just select 'Kona Stinky 2006-9' and it tells me what I need, full set for all the bearings, looks simple. Drifts available separately for other stuff as and when required.
I won't be doing much vehicle stuff anyway, I remember rebuilding the gear selector on my old van with a vice, which worked, but a proper press would have been better. I would need something huge for a wheel bearing or whatever.
RRP press +1 - so easy to use, and pretty too!
When Googling the RRP press (it was the one I thought it was), I saw an advert for this:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nrpfell-Bearing-Installation-Bicycle-Assembly/dp/B07RGX6T67/
Looks quite interesting.
EDIT: Not sure what the hell that preview thing is above, it is called 'Nrpfell Cycle Bearing Press Set For Wheels/Hub' on Amazon.
@danposs86 I have that kit. It has been a pleasure simply to have a bearing press for the times I've used it so far although I've only done some wheels and a BB, and sort of Jerry rigged it to fit a headset (it doesn't come with the necessary adapters). It was about the cheapest I could find and I have no other experience of bike bearing presses to compare it to though.
@luket Does it have an extractor with it or is it just for installation? The amazon descriptions aren't very detailed.
The RRP ones look nice, but the one SirHC has suggested looks much easier, in terms of getting the right sizes for everything at the first attempt, but the one above has many more sizes for other tasks which the Kona-specific one won't
No, it's just a press.
If you want the cheapest, then a sliding hammer to remove, and a socket set for installation. If you want a bit more professional, then the RRP is good, it's a good size to get to those annoying fiddly ones where space is a premium. If you have any double rows, they tend to be harder to remove, so might require specialist equipment, i.e. a good sized screwdriver and hammer!
I ordered the same one as in that pic the other day. £51 off amazon. I have't received it yet but will let you know what I think when it arrives!

Bicycle Service Centre makes some good tools for a good price. They'll even make custom bits for you.
That press certainly looks impressive for the money.
I've got a 'Wheels Manufacturing' "Economy" press which is about £100 by the time you buy the drift set, it's a lovely bit of kit.
TBH, installing the things, which admittedly is a bit daunting, pales into insignificance compared to getting the ****ing hateful ****ers out. The RRP press claims to be able to remove them, but it AFAIK it doesn't work for the majority of bearings because there's part of the frame behind them (does that mean they're 'blind'?) anyway.
I bought some slide-hammer which was pretty useless, I'm yet to find a better way that using your best swear words and biggest hammer.
Those BSC ones looks epic - exactly like the RRP ones but a fraction of the price. Wish I'd seen them earlier...
I've got some bits from www.bearingprotools.com and they're really good. Far better than the nylon press set I had before.

Same here 🙂
Bearingprotools.com here too.
They do both.
You say what bike and you get a kit for all the frame bearings.
Nice
Looks quite interesting.

I got that press from Alliexpress about 2 yrs back and have used it to replace all the bearings on my Evil following (there are a lot of bearings). great piece of kit. Think it cost about €80 off Alliexpress so £51 off Amazon is a good price. You can use it to pull\push bearing out, just put a big socket or something on the opposite side. I normally just tap them out with a socket.
I also bought a blind bearing puller set from from Alliexpress which I think I've used maybe twice?
and could have managed with just a hammer and screwdriver, but I'm a tool junkee 🙂
Hello again.
Gone for the RRP ones, a few folks above recomending them and I do like nice-looking tools. Lets hope they work!
Probably should have asked before I hit the button but... The main pivot on a Stinky is four 6902RS right next to each other with a through-axle through the middle, it should handle that shouldn't it?
