I need to replace some bearing on a mates bonty x race lite hubs (rear). I understand they are a bonty mod DT Swiss 240 Hub with the same internals. I see for regular servicing no tools are required but to replace the bearing a £120 servicing kit seems to be needed. Is this true? Help?

You need the tool to get to the inner bearing - you're better off finding a shop with the tool.

Yup, you need a special DT tool to remove the ring drive to get at the internal cartridge bearing on the drive side.

Yup - thats what I thought - the tool is at least £50 so cheaper to get LBS to do it I think unless you do it often! Cheers Guys!

Or you could make your own for a tenner, get one of these: -

And weld a 24mm bolt onto it, worked fine for my DT440FR's

Good call, Konastoner! That's what the workshop at Keswick bikes had done; welded a ring onto a socket so it could be held by a wrench.
