Just got this through by email - might interest someone on here?
The BBC are looking for cyclists to take part in a new documentary series Keeping Britain Safe. The series follows the vital and important work of Britain's many emergency responders and 'orange light' services as they deal with a range of incidents. They are filming a feature on road conditions in winter, focusing on potholes and the dangers they can present to road users, specifically cyclists. They are looking for a cyclist who would be able to discuss the dangers of potholes on camera. Do you feel strongly about the condition of UK roads? Are you actively campaigning to improve the condition of the roads? Can you draw upon previous experience of cycling accidents caused by potholes? Do you know of pothole black spots in your area? Then the BBC would like to hear from you.Alternately, if you have any footage that you have shot whilst on your bike that highlights the dangers of potholes or any incidents caused by potholes the BBC would be really interested in using it as part of the piece.

Tell them to head up North. You'd think civil war had broken out looking at the state of the roads up here.
Never mind the pot holes, get them to sort out them lot on Twitter How's about that then 😯
Inverclyde Council must be one of the UK's worst for roads along with Glasgow.
Yeah, potholes. That's cyclists biggest problem!!
🙄
As the email says, they're not looking at how dangerous the roads are for cyclists, they're looking at how the problems with road surfacing affect all users...
yeah.. potholes seem to be a really big issue for casual cyclists. i never really understood the problem either but most of us ride mtbs with 2.5" tyres and suspension and go looking for trails that are basically all "pot-holes"..
they def. do cause accidents though. maybe more of an education "how to ride potholes" (getting your weight back etc, not fighting the steering) is needed?

Maybe not the biggest but they are pretty dangerous. If you hit one it could easily have you off your (road) bike. In the dark, or if they are filled with water or even on a sunny day if trees are casting a shadow they can be difficult to spot.
There's no such thing as pot-holes. Just the wrong bike! 😉
Potholes can be avoided if you a) look where you;re going and b) other traffic allows you space to ride round them...
So I'd argue part of the problem with potholes is the other traffic!
According to official statistics there are 22 million potholes on UK roads.
That is quite clearly absolute rubbish.

There are far more than that on the A52 between Osbournby and Donnington alone!
Potholes only a concern for me when some damn fool decides to swerve into my lane to avoid one. But that happened quite a lot last year, because there were lots of frost-heaved potholes on my commute, and lots of damn fools.
I think you're lucky with your roads if you don't think potholes are a problem! I would class myself as an experienced cyclist and find the roads around Edinburgh a real hazard because of potholes. There are a few on my routes around town that are (not exaggerating) nearly a foot deep and over two foot wide. If you hit them you would definately crash. I avoid certain roads at night because I'm worried I won't spot them. Although to be fair the council does have a good system for reporting them and they seem to get fixed eventually.

I put a massive flat spot in my road wheel hitting a pothole concealed in a huge puddle. No chance to avoid it. Had a similar thing happen with a pinch flat at 35mph!
Surely there's not enough traffic in Scotland for the roads to deteriorate?!
