Checking over my road bike a few days ago i found the BB cup loose on the drive side. I took off the crank to remove the BB but could neither loosen nor tighten the BB cup. I figure that the thread is completely knackered. It's an aluminium frame. I've heard the BB shell can be reamed and re-threaded (or re-tapped).
Are these satisfactory solutions or is the frame irrepairably damaged?
Any advice. Also, to ream it, how much should i expect it to cost?
thanks
I think ive heard of Argos cycles doing this - just checked online and yes..

"Ream and sleeve bottom bracket (thread replacement both sides) £65.00"
I'm sure BETD do similar. Bore it out and bond a steel insert in there. Not seen it done but it's sound principles from a engineering point of view.

Hope this helps...
