[Closed] bar ends? yes or no?

Thinking of getting some, as I find myself resting at the end of the bars sometimes or longing for a different hand placement when going uphill sometimes. I would prefer some little stubby ones. What do people reccomend?

Always used them, steer clear of Onzas, my pink ones broke after just 23 years.

if you ride in shrubbery/trailing vegetation land you may wish to get ones that angle inwards

The 1990`s just called, they want their handlebars back 😉

Actually I'm thinking of some too for a long biking trip in the summer.

I use cane creek ergos with lizard skin grips (on flat bars). Ridden numerous 24, 12,10 and 6 hour solo races without a problem, love em

just get ski or L bends act as a bit of a hand guard. Yes you can get the occasional OTB when you catch a vine,

Yes, but only with Fred Salmon grips.

Meanwhile, back in 2013....

Yarp for me! Absolutely love mine - I really don't give a plop what people think! Got some short stubby ergon ones (3 finger)...the ends curve inwards so less likely to catch on stuff. Nice to have a larger pad to rest palm on too. You can switch positions easily and so far they have worn really well. Took a little while to find the correct angle after a bit of trial and error. I did originally buy them for longer xc rides with the intention of using my clamp on "normal" bars for more fun stuff but once I tried them I did not want to go back.

You should buy whatevers comfortable for you.

Eg. I'm old grey and fat but i prefer to wear thermal roadie style tights. I get looked at but who cares.

I had some smica ones, excellent with narrow flat bars

I have them on 3 bikes. I love them, it's like having another gear ( I ride ss). I really rate the specialised rubber ones

Yes if you're a racer, no for faffing around.

I recommend the Ergon bar-end and grips combo.

I've got Mt Zoom ones on my hardtail, they weigh next to nothing and weren't that expensive.

To be honest I prefer the look of my bike without bar ends but I put them on for the Cristalp last year due to the amount of climbing and now wouldn't be without them on my xc bike.

Don't think you can be too picky with weight when it comes to contact points 😉 . There is a new lighter weight version of the Ergons out, but I have no reason to change mine yet.

Personally I like the look of these, not sure how they perform though, but I'm feeling the need for bar ends at the moment too...

For any kind of XC, bar ends are great.

Running the short Ritchey WCS at the moment. Smallish and light. Aluminium ones weight less than the carbon ones, and cost half the price.

Really? Look to me like a black turd stuck on the end of the bar 🙂 Oh well, vive la différence!

cane creek ones.....due to neck injuries and now hand issues a god send, the cane creek for me work better than stubbies.

I even used them with risers..................

the ritchey wcs ones are the same as the Smica ones, but the smica are cheaper as they don't have the ritchey name 😀

Yes on my Hybrid with 560mm flat bars -
No on my MTB hardtail with 700mm risers.

I used them for years until I snagged a pinon-pine branch going down a real steep rock section--spun the bike sideways and launched me downhill. Still have the scars to show for it.

Just fit the bar ends facing backwards and put a longer stem on.
Do I have to think of EVERYTHING?

If you find you need the extra hand positions go for it. I use them on the commuter for that reason and found it makes a big difference as used to get numb hands after about 10 miles in one position. Have old 90s long ski style one which give two extra positions, but look a bit daft!

Sorry about the spelling, galaxy tabs are great but crap on forums. Anyway, quite like the position of the cane creek. I like the look of the ones on emily battys bike, serfas ones but no one in the uk does them!

Got a set of the cane creek ones, don't have much use for them most of the time but I sometimes stick them on just for the change of position on long rides.
