So, I have some revgrips that do a great job of keeping my CTS and vibration numbness under control on gentle terrain, but are too narrow (~33mm) for faster/rocky/tech riding where I end up over gripping. I had similar issues with my ice axes until sugru came along. Ideally my grips would be 36-38mm diameter (yes, I have rather large hands....), similar to my wolf tooth mega fat and sensus meaty paws grips, but with the damping of the rev grips.

Can you get thin silicone grips that would be stretchy enough to fit over the top of the revgrips while still providing decent levels of grip? Or some kind of bar or grip tape that I've never heard of? I've found some options but I'm not convinced by their wet weather performance.

Much obliged,

S

Rev grips are expensive but are supposed to be quite good unless they come apart while going downhill!:

Could you bulk up with heatshrink?

Renthal push ons might stretch enough

A few years ago I made up a grip for a mate who’s carpel tunnel surgery didn’t go as planned by stripping the rubber from an odi lock-on with a large flange and wrapping silicone road bar tape around the plastic sleeve, from one side to the other till he decided that the grip was a suitable width, I finished the wrap on the non flange side of the grip and used heat shrink over the end to secure the silicon tape

It looked very odd and was the width of a cucumber but it allowed him to ride again.

ESI extra chunky is what you want.

https://www.bikemonger.co.uk/esi-extra-chunky-grips-3565-p.asp

34mm but slightly asymmetric so make sure you get them on right. Comfiest grips I’ve used and help a lot when my previously broken hand aches.

Or they do bar tape too if you want to go down that route.

EDIT: misread OP but leaving the above in case it helps. Don’t thing ESI will go over the revgrips but their bar tape would

Bar tape for Road bikes? Do as many layers as you need.

Cheers, I have tried bar tape previously and it needed replacing every few rides as it got twisted up and shifted on the grip.

The hockey stick grip idea above is good. Look up karakal pu super grip and heat shrink grip enlarger for over the top.

Do you really find a big difference with the Revgrips? I'm interested to help with wrist pain (I've tried various "comfy" grips and they don't make much difference) but they're a pretty big expense if they don't do much.

@csb ta!

@dc1988 I find they make a big difference for my vibration numbness and carpal tunnel. Bar sweep helped my wrists more, sqlab 60x 12deg on my single speed and a nukeproof horizon v2 (9deg) on full susser. Also raising my brake levers to make a straight line through my wrists into my finger when descending was helpful.

If you are near Dundee you are welcome to borrow my grips or sqlab bar to try.

@dc1988 https://cyclorise.com/pages/returns-policy

30 day money back policy if they don't do it for you.

Thanks Shackleton, I'm already on 12° bars which definitely help and I can't play with brake angle due to limited movement in my wrist. I did have a brief ride on some Revgrips but I need a full day riding to get a proper idea if they work. Sadly I'm nowhere near Dundee, I also don't think they'll benefit the majority of my riding (Woburn) which is why I haven't yet tried a pair.

@dc1988 fair enough, have you tried silicone grips? I have some wolf tooth ones (mega fat paws) and they do an excellent job as they are squash so slow more wrist movement that normal grips while also removing vibration. Much cheaper than rev grips too!

I have some renthal push ons which you can have for the price of the postage to try. Didn’t get on with them so I took them off after one ride.

ESI, 34mm but slightly asymmetric

Really, they look like straight tubes to me. Never fitted them a particular way and never seen any unevenness one fully on. Have seen one end thinner and the other thicker from pushing/twisting them on.

I'm already an ESI fan Shackleton, I would run them on all bikes except for the fact they tear easily and don't play nicely with uplift straps. I've had a couple of pairs last only a few rides so the Revgrips could actually work out cheaper if they are more durable! I keep my ESI's on my trail bike which doesn't see so much gnar. Unfortunately the bike which I get more wrist pain with on longer trails is my full sus which is also the one I use for uplift and DH riding, a bit of a catch 22

Thinking outside the box, there are stretchy clear silicone reusable sleeve sets that could fit, they are designed to fit over a shaft and have a few designs knobbly and ribbed, not what you'll find in a bike shop, think more designed for her pleasure. Don't ask me how I found them.
Apologies everyone.😁

You can buy "grip puppies" for motorbikes that go over standard grips, might be worth a look?
