I've always thought this was a great compromise for bikes you can't/don't want to fit mudguards to.

I guess I could just get Endura again but wondered if there was anything else on the market, don't really want fully waterproof.

Isn't there two versions of the Endura MT500 waterproof shorts? One that's totally waterproof and another that's the same design as the spray shorts? Or am I just totally confused?

How about Madison DTE?

I got the impression that was fully waterproof? Also, I didn't say this in my original post for these would mostly be for (say it quietly...) gravel use, the DTE looked quite long and designed to go over kneepads? Will take a look.

Or am I just totally confused?

I *thought* it was just MT500 or MT500 Spray, will need to check. To be fair, I'm judging the Endura shorts against my current pair which are still intact but just very loose, they're halfway down my knees most of the time! The new ones might have a grippier wasteband which is almost all that's needed...

Zenith is the Madison shorts (and trousers) with waterproof rear. They look pretty long though if that's not gravelly enough! Zenith

+1 for the Madison shorts - well made, tough and pretty waterproof - can be cheap on freewheel too

Rats, they actually look perfect but I think that length could get a bit annoying to pedal in all day, definitely looks like it's design to go over the knee. Shame, nice looking shorts.

I’ve got Raceface Agent and they are superb. Also pretty long but perhaps not quite as long as those zeniths. I think they are pretty much fully waterproof but you don’t really notice...

Also they have a draw cord in each leg so even if no pads you can pull them in to stop them flapping about.

Surely if you’re gravelling you’ve already forfeited any sense of self respect anyway 😉

I have the Madison Zenith shorts (these ones) and also the current MT500 (non-spray ones).

As above, the Madison ones are a bit longer than I like - the are annoying across my knees when I pedal. Perhaps less of an issue with pads. The waterproofing is great on wet days, although on dry days they are sweaty. Oh, and they have weird pockets so the normal pockets don't fit a phone. You are forced to use their arse pocket for your phone which upsets my OCD. They're also surprisingly heavy.

The Endura ones are just comfier, fit better, don't irritate my knees and don't have weird pockets. They definitely don't slip for me.

I guess it sounds like I'm upset about the Madison ones. I'm not - they actually seem really well made and I use them often. But the Endura stuff just seems to be that bit nicer (and it should be, for twice the price).
