Got to be really careful when it's that wet. You never know what the puddles are hiding.

It's only bad roads in Dorset. I really don't know how folk get away with 23mm tyres.

France is nice, especially if the Tour de France has used the same route, you then get pristine smooth mastic ashfelt.

I commute daily, year round.

Spring , summer, autumn my route is generally farm tracks, canal paths ...zero if any mech failures.

In the wet periods I stick to the road....I break more wheels, spokes on the roads round here than on my off road alternative.

After over 20 years of mtb's only, I have recently added a road bike to my stable and I cannot believe how bad the roads around North Somerset are.

Last week I rode out onto the Somerset levels, mile after mile of smoooooth tarmac, then into Burnham on Sea, where it appears every road has been dug up multiple times, and then patched. It was such a bone shaking experience, I am never going back again.

My cure to this cyclists hell. Get the Local Authority engineers to ride road bikes, I bet surfaces would improve then.
