Does anyone know a good route up from Whitworth and onto the tops, along the top and then a great route down towards Baccup that they can recommend please?

I'd go up Rooley Moor road and take in a loop of Cragg Quarry. Head down the connecting routeinto Lee Quarry and do a loop or mess about on the skills area. Then follow the red/black descent down to the bottom and then depending on which bit of Bacup you want to end up in go through the park or down to the bottom of Lee Quarry. If you want to get back to WHitworth then head along the dirt road that you cross just before the new bit of rocky climb. Turn right at the end and kind offollow your nose back to Cowm Quarry. As you get on the tarmac at the quarry entranceturn left towards the little hamlet, pick up the path to the left just before the houses and follow it round to the other side of the houses, through 2 gates and blast down the hill taking whichever route takes your fancy. This drops you out at the top end of Whitworth.

Cheers olie but I'm after a good route up from Whitworth and onto the tops, along the top (northwards) and then a great route down towards Baccup.

Can you think of a route?

take the bridleway out from Facit up Hades and round to Limers Gate

There isn't a decent descent IIRC but a local might have a back street special

google lancashire and Mario which gets you to Lancs CC mapping website, select public rights of way from the countryside menu on the left
