Maximum budget is £275
The functions I need on the computer is calories , distance and speed not sure if this is possible, so I wondered about buying a turbo trainer then getting a computer to onto it.
buy a cheap second hand turbo, and a cycle computer that measures speed of the back wheel (you'll probably have to get one that does cadence)
Can you recommend a cycle computer that does these functions?
Can't go wrong with cateye IMO.

Thanks very much for the response
Is there one that has calories?
one thing, to get accurate calories, you'll need a heart rate monitor too
edit, just seen your post, I think to get calories, and therefore HR the price will go up quite a bit
I'd be careful with that one, it mentions its got a double wireless system, I wouldn't be surprised if it measured speed off the front wheel and cadence off the back
Is that a problem?
well, if you're using it on a turbo you won't get any speed functions, cause your front wheel won't be moving
Ah yeah I get yeah i'll get the cat eye one as that seem the best
cadence will be taken off the crank arms not the wheel u should be fine to mount the speed sensor on the rear and cadence on l/h crank arm may have to mount the computer on tt tho as some have problems with sensor distance range
hope this helps.
So the chain reaction cycles one I could mount one on either side of the frame
shorty, you could, but the distance between sensor and head units may be an issue
Will this one fit on the rear http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/Bike+Shop/Training/Training+Aids/Pulse+Monitors/Polar+CS100+Cycle+Computer++Heart+Rate+Monitor_90034018.htm
no it has no cadence if your paying that much u want the most functions possible if u look at sigmas u can get a pc adaptor whare u can download all the specs from that ride/training session im unsure if u can get one that has hartreat but u can get a cheap one for basic stats will have alooksi tho
Got a basic turbo free from mate. Sat it on chepo mat, towel and book to keep it level. Polar HRM with free online training diary and cat eye on rear wheel for cadence. Sat in living room in front TV and chepo fan. Cheap but provides all the data you need for a beginner. You can always upgrade late once you know it's for you
if u are set on a do it all computer check this its one of the highest in there range could prob find it cheaper elswhare tho

With the extra 15% off will also be in budget.
Not sure what they go for now but the tacx flow was very good. Relatively quiet. Gives read out for speed cadence distance etc but also power and heart rate. Quite useful to have if training seriouy.
