As above, is there enough difference between these olives to make them incompatible?

i would assume so as the avid is kind of recessed where it enters and the others are not. It might work but personally I would not chance it on a safety critical part.

Interestingly SSC are using the same olives and inserts for all their fitting kits...

In my experience, Shimano yes. Hope no. Having said that, the Shimano olive was of a harder material than the original.

I cant get olives where I am, and wasn't going to wait a week to order one...
I bought an 8mm olive from B&Q, chopped a section out with my dremel and pinched it to make it 5mm...
Works a treat.
