Just fitted my first ever pair of brake pads - never had to do it before!! The pads have always run very close to the rotors - close enough to make a slight, constant noise.

These new ones though are grabbing the rotors hard enough to stop the wheels after a quarter spin.... Is it just a case of bedding the pads in, or have I c0cked up the installation somehow?

I've unscrewed the adjusters as far as they'll go, and tried loosening the rotors, braking, then tightening the bolts again, which made a very slight difference.

Anything else I can try?

Did you push the pistons back in fully?

Aye - cheers for the super-swift responses!! I did push the pistons back in before fitting, but haven't tried forcing them apart with a screwdriver since then - I'll go and get the wheels off now and give it a go.
Cheers!

Well, just been for a swift few laps of the local park with the dogs. Partial success insomuchas the front wheel goes round - the rear still pretty stiff.

Looks as though my front brake wants bleeding now though - the handle comes about two fingers width from the bar before anything happens - I'm assuming that means it needs to be bled? Hope I can find an LBS to do the job Monday, as I'm off to Skye on Tuesday....

Original pads or aftermarket?

If aftermarket, do they have painted backing plates? If so, scrape off the paint around the edge, push the pistons back, reseat the calipers (just to be thorough) and try again.
The extra layer of paint (over the originals) stops them retracting properly.
