Last night I rode up a hill, it was all tarmac, is 2km long and has an elevation gain of 208m (all according to Bikely here).
It took 14' 32" and I had an average heart rate of 173bpm.
Bloody hell, it was a bit hard!
Next month it will be repeated, and the next etc. I will tell you what happens and you will ridicule me for my failure to make progress.
Feel free to let me know how bad it is already, or if you know the hill, have a go and really upset me (apparently it has been used for hill-climb competitions in the past with 5 minute somethings as the winning times.
your doing good already man - colleague of mine was running a 500 metre bike challenge at Oil Expo up here and the first 2 competitors couldnt ride 500 meters in a turbo trainer set up ! something we had done in the shop the night before to test the equipment in meer seconds ....
You are probably already fitter that 80% of the population just by doing that!
Keep riding and smiling, fitness will come ๐
You held 173bpm (average) for 14 and a half minutes? That's gotta hurt! Certainly better than Joe public could manage I'll wager.
80% Baaaaah, not good enough!! ๐ Suspect it is not better than 80% of the cycling population.
Had a pretty hard time grovelling up hills at the Dyfi enduro. Great fun blasting back down but want to get up a few with breath to spare to enjoy coming back down even more.
Tried to hold 170 as that was not too uncomfortable/painful but the 1:5 bit in the middle was tricky to stay under.
Anyone do anything similar?
