Deore hub, stripped, cleaned and reassembled. No play in cups and cones. Doesn't sound or feel too smooth when free-wheeling, but acceptable. If I hold the cassette I can wobble it on the freehub body. This wobble is visible when the wheel is free-wheeling in the bike stand. Lock ring is plenty tight enough.
New freehub body time (or excuse for a new wheelset)?

May be on it's way out but may also take a while to fail. Other stuff is not uncommon
sounds like a knackered free hub, at least change it, theres nothing worse than getting half way round your route and having it fail completely
IME Shimano freehubs wobble almost from new.
They usually fail without any warning.
I had one go on me completely on my ride last night; cue a pleasant walk back home in hub-deep snow. I replaced it with one I had knocking around, but I have a feeling the one I had knocking around was the original one I replaced because it was "on its way out".

Sounds to me like you might need a new bike ๐
Hub deep snow could have frozen the pawls and stopped it working.

Different freehub. The replacement operation tonight was due to the freehub going kapputt last night in the snow. Despite thawing out sessions with it, it did not come back to life, hence the replacement tonight with a [s]new[/s] old freehub body I had lying around. Does that make sense?? ๐
billybob has it, I think
