Heading down this weekend - my mate has taken his bike but thought I'd check there is something good to be found before I load mine into the car!

Oh yes. You're right in the good stuff on Dartmoor. Check out Lustleigh Cleave for techie stuff (10 mins in the car). Can dig out gpx files if you want. I'm sure there's stuff you can ride straight from the park as well but don't have any routes.

Assuming your taking the kids, you'll spend most of your time on the pump track - it's pretty good! Also take a wetsuit for the pirate ship lake..i didnt and it is officially cold 😳

ps ^ +1 lustleigh cleeve, buy a copy of the vertebrae publishing dartmoor/quantocks/exeter book its very good

I don't have kids! All my friends do though....

There's a pump track!? In the park? Maybe I'll take the BMX!

I've ridden Lustleigh Cleave and very much enjoyed it. If anyone's got any routes they wouldn't mind sharing - only looking to go for a small jaunt really, rather than an all dayer. I'm heading down there tomorrow morning and coming back Sunday.

Try this for some ideas, but use the road to climb out of dartmeet, I was exploring some dead ends...

A couple of options, both go from the same point 10/15 mins in the car from the park.

9 mile loop in the Cleave - only short but lots of techie singletrack and some pushing. 2 hours max.

My fav loop - still only 18 miles but gets you out on the open moor. 4.5 hours ish.

Have fun 🙂

Plus have a look in hembury woods. Some fun stuff in there and I think you might be able to get into the bottom of them directly from the park.

Some good riding around Hembury woods/hill fort as well, directly south of the park.

And lustleigh is way more than 10min in the car. More like 30 this time of year 😉

This.. I grew up in Buckfastleigh and Hembury was my go to after school.. There is a fort at the top, from there there used to be a run that went straight down with switchbacks to the river - we called it the Slalom. Looks like it still exists.. https://www.strava.com/segments/3696315

Hembury is perfect for a quick 45 minutes escape..

Also, Kingswood used to have some decent racks in - again a few years ago now, but it did host a fair few DH races back in the 90s..

Other side of RDCP, you're not far from Dr Blackall's Drive - another favourite.. https://www.strava.com/segments/7794934

So, we rode up to the fort and messed around on the trails coming back down to the river. Great fun! Cut short by brake failure, but it was excellent fun and definitely makes me want to come back on the next trip.

Cheers guys!

I live in Exmouth and am keen to ride Dartmoor more, recently I did go out and do these two rides:
https://www.strava.com/activities/1164357972
https://www.strava.com/activities/1160342894

I did see the above mentioned book in waterstones recently, but when glancing through the rides all seemed quite dull? or is it worth the £20 and will rock my world?

For the guys on here that live locally to Dartmoor, if your happy to have a tag along I'd love to ride more of Dartmoor!
