I stopped riding there for a while after there was a report of someone getting their bike taken from them by some folk on motorbikes
I went back a couple of weeks ago and it was ace.
Seen on Instagram that someone has had their bike taken by 7 or 8 people including some on surons.
Is it safe riding there? Alone? In a group?
I ride Greno a lot and have never seen anything dodgy or felt unsafe. If you go on a saturday afternoon there will be loads of fold there so shouldn't be an issue. Not been over the Wharny side for a few years, but I have been wanting to, just waiting fo the ground to dry up a bit.
Is that Insta post from our own @bikerevivesheffield ? When was it?
That was last night
The same crew were around last weekend
Bastards! Is your son ok?
I've been there loads, mostly on my own. Never seen or heard any trouble. Obviously stuff like this can happen. It also happens on a daily basis all over the UK so it's probably not a reason to avoid particular places.
Feel sorry for the kid, it's a miserable, scary experience to go through.
Not my kid, shared it for attention in the area
I've also been loads and never see or heard of any trouble.
Just two posts on line, the one above and one on here several years back.
@bikerevivesheffield was he on his own when it happened? Is the kid ok?
Not a clue sorry
Greno and Wharny are my local, the Suron and MX gangs pick-up when the weather improves, but they usually jsut stick to ruining the trails not robbing people. Like above, it's a rare occurrence, the only issues I've ever had have been with other MTBers. Saying that I usually ride with at least one person so probably not an ideal target if they wanted by ride.
Go on a Monday. Hardly a soul to be seen.
Saw some Surron riding baddies also swarmed some kid and nicked his bike over near Todmorden the other week too. Does anyone other than an oxygen thief own/ride a Surron?
This shit happens anywhere - four lads tried to rob me on the Fallowfield Loop on a sunny day at 5pm whilst I was commuting home on the old 90's MTB.
used to be my local riding area and always used to feel safe
Looks like at the moment their are a few spotty teenagers who have got too big for their boots and need to be caught asap
Any way to get in touch with Steve Peat and use his ‘celebrity’ to try and get change, after all he lives in the woods
Wow that's awful. I haven't been for a few weeks, (haven't really ridden for a while as had loads of other things going on) but was looking forward to getting down there again soon. My son and I both have fancy new bikes as well, so the knife bit is worrying. I'd probably fight them off normally, but I'm not getting involved in knives!
I'm local and ride Wharncliffe alot, I don't bother with Greno as its generally.busier with a higher number of unsavoury characters.
I'd say avoid Greno based on the above, but you'll be fine in Wharncliffe.
