Or using for flats? There's some on CRC at an attractive price, but I don't want SPD shoes. Do these offer the same tacky wonderfulness that normal 5-10's do?

They work fine on flats, but the little bolt on bit that covers up the cleat holes doesn't have all that much rubber on, and mine got pretty chewed up after using them on flats. If you were going to use them on flats all the time, then I don't think it would be worth it.
