Well she was wearing a helmet and knee pads.
yeah, dozy cowWell she was wearing a helmet and knee pads.
Too right, i will be attempting the Five sisters of Kintail at the weekend.
Bit harsh to assume she was trying to copy Danny..
I've been in plenty of places that 'they shouldn't really be', but wouldn't say it's because I want to be like Danny. I enjoy a challenge, maybe she did too.

The ginger stubble was a bit of a giveaway to be fair.
More to the point, the tourism industry does a great job in selling Skye as a mountain bike mecca, so why not? far better destinations imho though.
One might argue that nearly everyone mountain rescue get called out to us in a place they ought not be. Pretty well every post on the grough Facebook feed is reporting a call where someone who went unprepared or underestimated the conditions has had to be helped off the hills.
Well she was wearing a helmet and knee pads.
The irony really.... imagine if she wasn't....
the question here is was she on a 29er?
and the Inaccessible Pinnacle, also known as the In Pinn.
MacAskill took a bike to the top of the In Pinn
not that inaccessible then?
not that inaccessible then?
Indeed.
High time it had its outdated name changed to 'The slightly tricky but very exposed pinnacle'.
Do we know who she is yet? Not Rachel Atherton surely.

That's a slippery slope you've started down (if you'll excuse the pun).
An Teallach isn't really a forge you know!
The Great Wilderness has tracks running through it and can be traversed in a few hours on a bike.
I fell off a tank gun the other day. See it everday on my commute and thought "Danny can, so...". Luckily I was wearing the elbow pads too.
I went over a bealach a while back and despite the name there were bees everywhere, they ought to sort that out too- false advertising.
There's a bit of an assumption that this is some random idiot way out of their depth but maybe she's actually a brilliant rider who just had an unlucky fall? Or an experienced big mountain rider?

This could run and run...
I've never seen a coffin on Ciste Dubh, and the Saddle isn't very comfy at all.

It's typical journalism for the sofa dweller is what it is....
Trekked all the way up a mountain with an old pair of shoes.
No Cobbler, just some rocks. Disappointed.
team which rescued the woman said it had been encountering a number of cyclists high in the mountains
Well, that's kind of the point of having a "Mountain Bike" isn't it?
It doesn't say the rider was attempting "stunts" high on the Ridge, but that she fell near the Loch.
Accidents happen.
We were discussing this on FB.
My take is that the reporter has probably picked up on a flippant comment by the mountain rescue dude.
Who's been to Coire Lagan? Is it rideable?
It is a reasonably good path with a wee bit of scrambling near the top.
I'm not sure what to make of the comments from the MRT. I can't imagine many folk watched The Ridge and thought that they could ride what Danny did.
Hope she makes a good recovery. Accidents happen. I wonder if the person quoted is a biker too or is just reacting with the hope of giving a good sound bite?
Cheers
Sanny
Thought Danny took a helicopter to get there, rather than actually riding his bike 😉
While they do a marvellous job and we should all be hugely grateful, MRT persons can sometimes be a bit sanctimonious when rescuing someone they judge unworthy.
Not saying that's what's happened here, more likely he was just cracking a joke and the reporter thought "ooh, that'll get a few clicks".
And he was obviously right.
Original local newspaper piece: http://www.whfp.com/2017/04/26/cyclist-airlifted-to-hospital-after-attempting-a-danny-macaskill-in-the-skye-mountains/
Coire Lagan is the bit with the lovely bedrock and lochan that DM was mucking about near at the start of the film, I think. So it's entirely possible that the rider was there for that purpose. I imagine she chatted to the team as they lifted her out of there. Who knows?
...the lovely bedrock and lochan that DM was mucking about near at the start of the film
I thought that was near the outflow of Loch Coruisk...?
Also, from the newspaper: “She was up on some of the boulders in Coire Lagan and took a bit of a tumble”
Also, also, DM climbed the IP with his bike. Not bad going.
2.10 onwards in the clip.
Agreed - was thinking of the bit ~1:35, but could be wrong about that, too.
The spokesman said the rescued woman appeared to be dressed for attempted stunts.
Right, from now on, when i put my Skid lid and pads on, i am NOT riding my bike, repeat NOT riding my bike, but am 'Attempting Stunts'. That sounds WAY cooler doesn't it! 😆
From the story we really don't know if the rider was a stupid person getting themselves into unnecessary danger or a skilled rider who was unlucky.
some judicious editing made it appear more sanctimonious, the actual quote from the local paper:
“She was up on some of the boulders in Coire Lagan and took a bit of a tumble,” Mr Akroyd added. “She had all the gear on – helmet and knee pads, thankfully. But I think the message for anyone heading up into the Cuillins is – don’t try to outdo Danny MacAskill!”
emphasis is mine
