I spent a while staring slack-jawed at the price of MTB-targeted waterproof clothing and then I got a packable hooded waterproof from Amazon for about £20. It fits well over my normal bike gear, including a softshell, has a decent sized hood and it's kept me dry so far.

If you can get Gore windstopper in the sales-
https://www.sportpursuit.com/catalog/product/view/id/2568653?utm_source=SilverpopMailing&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=w-sp.e-ds.d-20230108.st-UK_EU.a-15_Sunday.
Looks a bit shit but their windstopper is fantastic and can cope with a bit of a shower.
Also good for a range of temps.
Edit- prob not what you want but I’ll leave it there.

The galibier is a god jacket, I use mine a fair bit. The decathlon one is good but it is a mtb jacket and imho the billowing hood makes it poorer on the road, to the extent I very rarely use mine and take the galibier instead.

Ok as always I’m about to suggest something double your budget….but I think it’s a bargain for the price….

I wear it for my gravel rides that can be a good 4 hours out in the rain. Works well for me.

I came in here to mention the Galibier Tourmalet jacket, but it seems I've been beaten to it.

Having said that, I have also got one of the Rapha ones linked above as the Royal Matrix doesn't pack down very well.

I'm in the same boat. No way I'm paying upwards of £150 for a decent jacket when I'll inevitably fall off at some point, or as a minimum, rip it on brambles/branches.

Like the look of those Decathlon ones, but the cheaper is only 5000mm water resistant

Madison roam at freewheel is £89.99 but you get extra 15% off with your first order taking it down to around £76.50

What’s the sizing like on those Decathlon jackets? The size chart says they’ll be super small but the (v good) review from Singletrack doesn’t mention anything about the fit, just that the cut is very good (but I always ask - for whom?)

I have 2 of the Decathlon jackets first one is years old but still works well and is 10,000 waterproof
2nd one is a new model of same jacket but 15,000
I think both are Large and sleeves are a tad long on me but the Medium felt to short in sleeves
The decathlon stuff is awesome
My mate has the Bike specific one which is nice

What height/weight/build are you?

I wish the singletrack review said what size he’d tested!

This seems the latest version of mine which has been upgraded again
Now 25,000
I bought an IXS jacket from wiggle and after 3 rides one of the pockets has burst
It’s going back and might need to treat myself to another decathlon one

I have the decathlon rockrider in large, I'm 5'9" and a bit, 38" chest, 32 waist and it's a good fit. Like the long sleeves, the hood works, it's well designed, tough and waterproof. Doesn't breath much though, but can't expect too much for the price. Pit zips help a bit, I keep them open all the time. Zips a bit clunky. I'd say it was a good value, durable jacket

Thanks! Not a chance the medium (large is out of stock) will fit me then!

Remember to check stock levels at the shop too if you have one near. They seem to have more stock in the shops sometimes. For jackets I'm usually between large and XL. My Rockrider is XL.

I use a RaceFace aquanot waterproof jacket. Cost me £75 at the time but that was a number of years back and ive no idea what they are now.

I think you'd like it. Big RaceFace logo on the rear.

There's some real bargain Altura waterproofs on ebay (seconds from their retail outlet, no visible issues with my one at all)

My one cost the grand sum of £14 inc postage! Kept me dry this weekend on torrential rain at Afan.
They have others at various price points.

Search for Altura Nightvision jacket sold by ALOC Sports Retail.

Try Galibier, bought one from there for about that money, waterproof and windproof and packable. Tourmalet Jacket..

I bought a Galibier Tempest for 60 quid - sort of "poor man's Shakedry" - very light and packable. Not for a full day's riding in the rain, but perfect as a precaution to stuff in your pocket.

<Galibier peeve: you pay for "tracked" postage but they don't provide you with a tracking number>
