I've got a job in Selkirk in the morning so I was thinking of going up today for a late afternoon ride at Inners or GT.
I haven't been to Glentress since all the new facilities were built so I don't have a mental image of the place. Last time I slept up there I ended up in the car park at the bottom of Inners DH track and was woken up by hooligans doing a bit of late night rally driving in the gravel.
I don't want to be isolated in a layby somewhere. Is there anywhere that I can blend in with other vehicles without being outside someones front door or something?
Sorry about the odd question but a bit of local knowledge always helps!
Cheers
stay at the freeride car park
That would be a nice spot. Surely I'd be turfed out when they lock up for the night?
i know laods who have stayed there
I have slept in the lower car park, on the far side and I didn't get kicked out, although I went back later on when everything was closed up.
But I have had a knock from the local police who were doing a wee check.
He didn't ask me to move though.
Officially I imagine you are suppose to be over where the wigwams (huts)are,on the left up the hill/track near the toilet block, there will be a charge. They have power hookups there too.
I'm going for it. Hope the weather is a bit better up there than it is here! I'll check for responses on the phone later, cheers.
I was told by one of the guys in the shop to stay in the top car park. Buzzards nest or whatever its called. Spent 2 nights. Couple of other vans there too.
stayed in buzzards nest a few times, also it has a portaloo so good for taking a dump in the morning ๐
...also it has [s]a portaloo[/s] a huge wood surrounding it, so good for taking a dump in the morning
Shark - you should have said - I'd have come along for the ride.
I'd have come along for the ride.
Would you really though? It was spur of the moment, didn't have time for the usual 6 weeks of negotiations.
We left Newcastle in drizzly rain and heavy fog and I was a bit nervous about being stuck in a van all evening with a bucket full of soggy riding gear. Not to worry though as we arrived at Glentress in blazing sunshine!
Had a lovely afternoon blast around the woods. First ride on proper trails on a fresh bike. There was two large motorhomes in the buzzards nest carpark who looked like they were settled in for the night. Next time we go I'll probably stay up there.
However, we hadn't planned on staying in the woods so had to go in search of food. We treated ourselves to an Indian takeaway in Inners and dined out in the trail centre car park. We were thinking about staying there but there seems to be people coming and going at all hours and it makes you wonder what they're up to out there in the pitch black! We just waited until bed time then parked up in a side street next to the hotel and had a quiet night.
Can't wait to get back. Big night ride and sleeping in the buzzards nest I think.
