The missus is dead set on going walking/climbing in Chamonix next summer - I'd like to get in at least a day or two of biking as well.

Can anyone recommend anywhere that would be good for easier biking - either lift assisted or not. Nice smooth flowy singletrack with great views and nothing too crazily steep or technical would be ideal.

She's done a few red routes at trail centres here but finds rocky natural stuff in the Lakes a bit much - just built up an On-one summer season hardtail with Pikes so she would be riding that.

In chamonix?????

I think you have chosen probably the best area for the most exposed, steep, technical riding anywhere in the alps......mmmmm must got there again.

Maybe Morzine may be better as there is something for everyone there, about an hours drive.

Le Tour is at the easier end of the scale in the Chamonix Valley

Some details here

Theres a couple of good trails off of the back of les houches towards st gervais, i took a 12yr old lad down there and he loved it, also st gervais is ok if you take the bubble car up.

Yeah we went snowboarding there and she has her heart set on going back to do some walking/climbing. Didn't realise Morzine was only an hour away.

Thanks folks will check out le tour and les houches. ๐Ÿ™‚

LOL at Nasher - he sums it up pretty well! Chamonix - not for the fainthearted.

Mmm, perhaps La Clusaz? (between Chamonix and Lake Annecy. Perhaps you could visit on the way/way back if you're driving. Thats what I did
Its not exaclty nice smooth flowy singletrack, but its not crazily steep or technical either.
Theres not loads, but is fun to play around on 'sessioning' for a day
The Red and Black (I though the black was just more flowy?) DHs are fun, man made affairs. Sort of like a steeper trail centre trail, but goes on for much longer, and is lift assisted
It wasn't crazily busy either and seemed in decent nick (okay, so there were some braking bumps)
My mum (competent red grade rider) rode both and enjoyed them (on a 120mm SJer FSR)

The only english speaking locals were in tourist information, but I got by with my not quite sentences french, and people seemed pretty friendly and helpful
