I find they're too long below the knee. Any shorter alternatives that are just as minimal?

If you want minimal you could try the 661 Recon knee pads. I have a set which I bought to try and save my knees in a crash - having had a bad one with no knee pads.
I had another crash and I think they helped - but not enough. Ended up with a gash on my knee still (not as bad as it would have been without them - I bent one of my cranks and smashed up both elbows a bit).
Now gone a bit more hardcore and got Scott Grenade Evo’s. Not in anyway a light kneepad but I’m not messing about anymore!
