Looking at one of those Vincero design magnetic bottle systems...purely for aesthetics and a bit of weight weenieism

Anyone used one and are they any good?

Cheers.

Cheaper than a carbon cage and lighter
A few friends have them on road bikes and have not had any problem

Are these designed for on or off road? I'd want one for my slackline but dont want to have a full bottle flying off the frame every 2 mins

Looking at their blurb looks like both road and mtb, they are pretty pricey but like the lack of a cage.

Cycling plus had a review of it a couple of montsh ago, they didn't have any issues with it and gave it a good review. It does give a very clean look to the bike.

oops, though the cage type thing was magnetic onto the frame, not the bottle to the mount, never mind

Fasthaggis does not like this ( and would not trust it ) 🙂

I've tried these, and they're fine on and off road. Really strong magnets. The only problem is the obvious one of not being able to use other bottles.

with the added benefit that the water will be ionised by the magnets.

what happens if you put sports drinks in one?

Anything except Irn Bru... 😉

Downside I can see is you have to replace the bottle in a specific position with the smallish magnet facing downward, rather than just wanging a bottle back into a cage, which may be tantamount to multi-tasking while riding...

Have one.

Magnetic wedge bolts to the frame so will not "just drop off" attaches like a normal bottle cage to a frame, but very very low profile when no bottle attached.

Bottle has another strong magnet and moulded to connect with the wedge.
The bottle does not just sit on top of the wedge they become intergrated.

Takes a ride or two to get used to the different system over a normal cage. More of a hefty pull to seperate the magnets than pulling a normal bottle. Hasn't worked loose, fallen off, or been knocked off.
Putting the bottle back on is straight forward and the magnets kind of grab it and lock it in place.

The bottle itself has a simple valve set up to suck liquids out, not the normal plastic bung you pull open with your teeth to get liquids out of

For weight weenies there is a cost/weight saving over high end super light carbon fibre cages (go look at some cage prices) compared to say £10 for a normal cage and bottle then £30 is a bit steep, but some cages out there alone are more that £30, you pays your money and make your choice.

Trick looking, functional, low profile when no bottle attached, bit of a gizmo/gadget, quite like mine 🙂

Doesn't it slow you down when you ride over manhole covers?

Oddly this is one of our best selling products. I was very sceptical when shown them but we have had nothing but strong positive feedback on them.

It speeds you up as you approach and slows you down as you pass it...

will it interfere with my power balance wristband?

oh, got one of those type, don't like it much, when you squeeze the bottle to get more out/faster the bottle deforms and lid starts to come off 🙁

Seems a neat idea for those who only use bottle occasionally.

I had one of that design and it worked fine without popping the lid so clearly it can be made to work.

Some belive the rare earth magnets have a localised counter effect on the space/time continuity and you are riding in a enhanced magnetic field bubble that defys the earths natural gravity laws.
You go faster than normal !
Strava units will display this as a KOM that defys normal riding ability..... Stephen Hawking told me 🙂

What about the aero ones, saves at least 1watt when riding. 😀

Had a go with one at Mayhem. They work really well. Only reason I don't have one is the fact I'd need 6 of the bottles for racing which gets expensive.

gee, i know this is still not cheap they do a race kit package of 2xedge16 mounts 5xStratus 20oz bottles RRP £84.99

Can't see too many Pro riders lobbing these off the road on the pro-race circuit like they do with the cheapo standard ones 🙂

for weight weenies
20oz (591ml) bottle 74grams £6.99
24oz (710ml) bottle 85grams £7.99
Edge 16 magnectic mount 16 grams £27.99

20oz kit £33.99
24oz kit £34.99
20oz 5 bottle kit £84.99

🙂

Only thing is when racing I often have to drink really quickly then stuff the bottle bck in the cage while caning it on a fire road and maybe on a trail... I'd be worried I couldn't replace the bottle quickly, at speed, without looking and while totally bollocksed as it has to be the 'right way up' to engage the magnets.
