As above and how tall were they when you did it? My 9yr old is looking too big for his 20" wheels and reckoned it made more sense to just go for a small frame with 26" wheels.
Thinking about a 45650b frame or similar (14") and putting some 26" wheels on it to drop the stand over height a smidge..
Any thoughts or other suggestions?
they're kind of long aren't they?
I built up a 14" inbred 26er for my boy - he's 8, but very tall (150cm). It's a good fit for him with a short stem. The frame's a bit heavy (would have prefered a Scandal - still looking), but he manages fine. I just used bits from my "spares" box.
Yes but I seem to remember Brant saying he used a 456 for his 9 yr old daughter a while back.. Any other ideas?
Cheers for that mine is a tad under 150cm ATM but getting there..
Gf is 4ft 10. Spec Myka 13
Lots of post here recently on this topic. I built a kona Fire mountain up for our lad, cheap to buy a complete bike and upgrade and a good bit sorter and ally so a fair bit lighter, still run a 50mm stem.
One thing to keep an eye on is crank length. Kids have shorter legs and decent kids bikes have correct length cranks to suit. I ended up buying cranks from Isla bikes.
A bit of inspiration here

The answer you seek (a cheap small HT for 9-10 year old) is at the end of this thread, and was being thrashed round Comrie Croft today ๐

I bought an extra small Cotic BFe frame for my (then 13) son last year which was great, but he has of course outgrown it already ๐
And NorthCountryBoy is right about cranks - I had some 160s in my spares box so used them.
Cheap cube it is then
My lad tried a mates 14" Inbred when he was 4'10"ish and said it felt OK. Which is odd, as my mate is definitely over 5 foot tall. But not by much.
Daughter has a 16" whippet, stem is too long at the moment but apart from that she is fine on it age 10 and around 150cm
I have a 13" framed (26" wheel) Hotrock waiting for my lad, but whilst he can ride it, he has much more confidence on his 24" wheel Hotrock.
