Pretty strong northerly wind tomorrow... so would it be unsportsmanlike to take advantage?
If you don't somebody else will.
It does remind me that one of my speed camera targets is on a NS road - maybe I should sort out my radar reflector.
Good point. May have to go for a cheeky lunchtime spin 8)
Like the idea, a lot.
[scampers away to check the 2nd places on strava}
Thanks for the tip off. ๐
20mph NNW at lunchtime according to the beeb.
๐
take it you're all roadies? (or winter roadies) ๐
Roads, trails, winter, summer... it's all good (other than the mud!) Though, yes, I was thinking road KOMs.
Suppose it will help with fuel consumption on the starva moped.
I've lost 1/2lb on the race weight diet. I'm going for strava KOMs on 3 cat 4's on Thursday.
Although currently I have to make up a 12 second defecit over 500 yards 80
I went for one today (and got it)

Link or it didn't happen ๐
I would go out and have a go but only did 120 miles in jan so not really feeling fit and the nice bike is still in storage
Oh and I hate the wind , no matter what it's never behind me
There's a bloke on Strava a few miles from me who did 500 miles in Jan.
Running ๐ฏ
Mind you just looked at the bloke who came first in the mile blast did over 600!
Anyone got a link to the "strava cock" someone made?
I need a laugh ๐

How true ๐
Anyone got a link to the "strava cock" someone made?I need a laugh
What is this???
Strava is bloody gash IMHO.

Um, is that good or bad? ๐ ๐ณ
monkeychild - MemberStrava is bloody gash IMHO.
I prefer Ride with GPS, it's like Starva but for adults. ๐
Argh missed it by 3 seconds over a 6 minute segment ๐ฟ
lost a mark for no japs eye though...
Ahh there will be a few storm chasers out today trying to up their KOM count...
This is a not-so-good gentlemen's vegetable shaped route:

This is why real TTs are usually out and back or circuits. One way records can be hopelessly distorted by the prevailing weather and gradient.
The same problem applies to the classic RRA distance and place to place records; Ian Cammish has a one way 100 mile record of 3:11:11 !
Do people seriously plan rides around taking Strava segments? Sad. Pin a number on.
(Yes, I'm on Strava but the thought of taking it in any way seriously strikes me as odd)
I record my commute and for my own training I try to do better, which is what Strava is for isn't it? This week mt commute towards the west cost has been a grinding struggle into the wind with an average speed of 24-28kmh but the ride home has been so faaaaaaast I've averaged 38-41kph. So its quite a difference on a route that is pretty much flat across exposed marshes.
Its all part of the fun LS. Its only not fun if you get all worthy about it.
edit: didn't read properly
I can understand it being a bit of a laugh and as a training log, that's why I use it. But to plan rides around tailwinds/taper for an attack on a segment/all the other bobbins that goes on seems daft.
**** me not this again.

Bah!
radar reflector: check
tailwind: check
slight downhill past camera: check
good downhill run in: check
However...
roadworks on downhill run in: check
tailwind not all that strong: check
pedestrian lights just after camera on red: check
car in front of me braking for pedestrian lights: check
Having had to start from a standstill part way down the run in I only managed to hit 32.5mph before having to brake ๐
Radar reflector...? Not a stealth bike then!
Well you won't set off a [s]speed[/s] safety camera with a stealth bike.
Actually it is an all-black bike, so normally stealth, but I fitted an alu foil corner reflector on the back.
