Heard today that he'd been found in N.Devon...
But that was quickly dismissed by a member of A/S Police..
Was supposed to be walking the SW coast path, but his car was found with his walking boots etc inside.
Have mates in Police who know Shane and they've promised to let me know as soon as anything is heard or seen of him..
Fingers crossed Guys.

My next door neighbour is in the climbing fraternity (he is the nutter who spent a week living on a cradle above Cheddar Gorge 2 or 3 years back if anyone remembers that) and have passed on the details and asked him to put something on the climbing forums.

I have only met Sharki a couple of times when out in the Quantocks, not ridden with him but he did show us some secret squirrel routes and he did seem a sound guy. I hope that he hasn't been found because he doesnt want to be found - yet.

I'm not particularly good at this sort of thing, so will just send out some good vibes and kind thoughts to hope he's alright and all being well, just needed some time out.

From Jo Ward on the Find Sharki Facebook page posted at around 11PM Tuesday evening....

Jo Ward POLICE UPDATE: It would seem that Shane was definately in Watchet on Saturday night the 3rd April. He spoke to 2 x officers on the Esplanade and told them that he had plans to do the coastal walk travelling 'light'. He was going to rely on the good nature of people to give him work in exchange for food and possibly ...a bed. He said he would also try to feed himself snaring animals and off the land. If he can't get a bed he was going to sleep rough. This does sound like Shane - a little off the wall. He has been downgraded to not high risk but police in Devon & Cornwall have been informed and they are going to carry on looking for him in order to speak with him. I am still a bit worried but glad that he has been spoken to. Please keep texting him so that if he does turn on his phone he will know that we all care. Jo x

He was due to fit a bathroom at Jam bo's on Wednesday so let's hope that he's hung a sharp left off the coast path, gone cross country and turns up at Jam bo's tomorrow with a tub of tile grout, a mastic gun, a rucksack full of laundry and a sheepish grin.....

Fingers crossed...

He's done quite well out of the appeal photos - at least no one's supplied the press with ones where he looks half asleep, or is in fancy dress. 🙂
Perhaps if we start putting less complimentary shots up, he'll re-appear sharpish...

As said on Facebook. I'll put the word out accross all the National Trust countryside properties today so the wardens can keep an eye out...They will be out on the coast most days and own a third of Devon and Cornwall coastline.

I can't get Facebook at work so if someone could email us a photograph that I could forward on that would be great please to simon.hill1@nationaltrust.org.uk.

And if he gets all the way to Salcombe then that slap/hug are gonna be ten fold...

Chipps - 'fancy dress' yeah well, call it what you will! 😉 I remember in the autumn, he was showing us around the Q's over a weekend, on the second morning he turns up, with fancy camera and proceeded to show us the pics from a party the night before - he was wearing GOLD HOTPANTS ONLY in all of them! (I don't think we'll be able to embarrass him somehow)

As a lot of the posts on here I don't know the fella but seeing his name on lots of threads and no doubt chatted at some point over the years I still feel worried about the fact no one has heard anything. Not sure what to say really but felt I had to type something.

Get in Touch with someone Sharki......

I've only just seen this. I've never met him, but he always seems like a great bloke, he was lovely to me when we had to cancel our planned trip down to the Qs.

Hope he turns up safe soon.

Only met him a few times but from what i know of him, which is not much, he's really great lad.

Hopefully he's coast path walking and turns up at Si's stinking like a badger with a bag full of washing ready to eat him out of house and home.

I've also been following this since Sunday. Met sharki on one of the quantocks group rides last year (and quite a few other nice people). He guided 'advanced/fast' group i was in that day and chatted to him about riding etc and he came across as a sound bloke so was shocked when i read he'd gone missing.

Really hope this turns out okay and he's doing some mad coastal walk.

It's just been pointed out to me in this weeks Bridgwater Mercury, that Shane Roger Austin, 38 from Cannington was banned from driving for 36 months, last week, could this explain some things?

Dibbs - yes, it could, but would rather see Shane back and receiving support should he need it.

Driving or not, I want him to re-surface well and fine. Despite not having met the man in person.

Shane Roger Austin, 38, of Rodway, Cannington, drink-driving, £100 fine, £40 costs, £15 victim surcharge, disqualified from driving for 36 months (G).

Surprised all you cyclists support someone who obviously has done this before or hurt someone in his actions!

Glad I wasn't out riding when he came past

MM

(Whatever his crimes may be this thread is about finding someone - His disappearance seem to suggest regret anyway.. Consider this a warning Mod)

I don't think thats a fair comment MM!

Clearly no one really knows him all that well, or at least a certain part of him. His online and 'out riding' life is one thing and his personal life is just that.

Keep those sorts of comments to yourself 🙄
