Im going to clean the patio as its covered in mud & sand after leaning bike against fence/house/dog and hosing the muck off. I should really be doing this on the grass.

Anyone made owt to plonk the bike up? I'm thinking something like those wheel trap things in bike shops.

I have a some wood and a big hose.

I just use my work stand but then again, I hose the bike on the drive in front of the garage and the stand is easily accessible, when finished just carry stand and bike back in to garage

to stop it flopping about when you're spraying you just need a hole that will hold it nice and tight

Nope, but using a gardening tray to catch all the mud that drops off, excess water just overflows and can be easily rinsed away.

At our old place I concreted a 4" fence post into the ground and fixed something like this too it

But then i had a corner of the garden to stick some gravel down as a bit of a soakaway too.

I use a bit of 4x2 with a V cut in the end, like an old fashioned clothes line prop (but shorter). Prop against the top tube, job's a good'un.

Occam's razor, innit?

preference is a silver birch in the front - but occasionally have need to use the horse chesnut round the back.

I have made a wash stand with 22mm copper pipe, two 90s and two tees:

You can sort of see the idea! Good for cleaning/lubing the chain also.

Just been and got one of those Halford's jobbies. Seems to hold the bike perfectly still, and should be great for washing/tinkering.

TBH it's about blimmin' time someone made a stand for washing the bike down in the garden. If we don't make a stand, who will?

And Pook, that wall above has a worrying amount of what look like bullet marks in? Someone been carrying out summary executions round your way? I'm not prepard to make that much of a stand, quite frankly.

When I read ' made a stand ' I thought it meant , Made a stand . As in , "Youre not cleaning that bloody bike on the patio , I'm sick of this , I'm going to my mothers ....etc "
So , you ' made a stand '

So I was going to say ......
Yea . I bloody told her . It's either in the garden , or it comes back in the kitchen .

OK , gotta go . Its , er , my turn to wash up ....

Hang in tree by seat... Bike at eye level works well.

Very surprised that a purpose-built wash stand doesn't exist!

So ... those Halfords Pro ones, do they work?

Recipe,

One pair of old Hope 2 front wheel bearings (Knackered)
RD350LC steering damper fork bracket (Kept since 1982, just in case)
Old unidentified motorcycle front axel.
Length of plastic conduit.
Left over steel tubes.
Tractor grey enamel.

Mix it all together, make a few bits and there you have it, a stand to fit a Shimano hollow spindle which allows the cranks to be turned around. Dead simple and it wont mess with your girlfriend.

Yep, I planted two small trees, they happen to be perfect spacing to support front and rear wheels.

jeez, the lengths some will go to. And then to top it all, they ride singlespeed for the simplicity!!

That is pretty cool though.

I had a bike clamp fixed to a pergola and a the patio cambered to a silt trap and drain underneath it.
The garden was designed around the bike wash- thats pretty sad eh?

If anyone wants one of the stands in walleayter's picture^^^^^^^then my old one is going spare. A bit dirty, and will need an alllen key and 10mm socket to put together, but you can have it for £5 postage. Don't all rush at once. First to mail me gets it.

I've got wood as well. But I've only got a small hose.

I turn my bike upside down to hose it to stop the water going down the fork seals. And it stands up on its own then. And you can make the wheels spin when you hose the tyres, which is always fun.
