My lovely Fox 32 talas RLCs were horrible over teh weekend - very hard but still smooth. I took em to the bloke at TFTuned (stand at SITS) who deduced they were too firm - air pressure he reckoned around 100-110PSI. I took em back off him and attached the shock pump and as i thought they were at 65psi like he recommend3ed for my weight ๐
On my return today i have stripped them completely including the talas, rebuilt and filled with new oil. Pumped them up to 60psi and hey presto buttery smooth and very plush.
Anyone volunteer reasons for this? Could i have made them "stiffer" to compress by following TandemJeremys advice and putting in slightly more (20ml as opposed to 10ml) oil in the talas leg oil bath? or any other reasons?
Possibly too much oil in the Talas lower leg, did you replace the seals in the Talas system?
You maybe getting air leaking within the system, scratches on the internal sealing surface can cause this too.
Seals all look fine - there was definitely 10ml too much oil in the talas leg
TJ to the forum!!
so you want to follow up bad advice, with bad advice.
Everyone knows TJ is full of shite, so just chalk it up to experience of internet 'experts'
I wouldn't have though 10 mls extra would make that much difference. All more oil would have done is cause it to ramp up quicker if the volumes were low and possibly go to hydraulic lock at the end of the stroke. it would have no effect at the beginning of the stroke.
Is the extrac oil in the air chamber or the bottom of the leg?
I am fairly sure I did not recommend you put more oil in these forks - I have done so successfully with Fox forks and might have discussd a general case.
you 100%did say that
Really Ralph? When?

Well I can't find the post Ralph can you? Otherwise its as I say above - was the extra oil in the air chamber? it wouldn't make any difference at the beginning of the stroke anyway.
I run all my forks that only have a few ml of oil in the bottom of the leg with a few ml extra and it has no noticeable effect - apart from the foxes that have 100ml extra in - they ramp up a bit.
