As above title really, top rates payed! Will travel within reason.
Phoned LBS's but I'm an impatient bugger with a new bike itch to get out ASAP and not wait a couple of weeks!

Cheers

Why do you feel you need this done?

Got a new frame, installed new BB and it was tight to the point of worrying! Yes it was in the right way for the right side etc and the threads are undamaged on the frame it's self but the BB I would not reinstall looking at them, when tightened in there appears to be the slightest of gap on one side between frame and BB. Does this make sense, I'm not an experienced bike builder.

Cheers

By the way I removed the BB again just for peace of mind that I had not cross threaded in any way.

Cheers

Where in aberdeen are you. I cant chase and face due to lack of tooling but i am an experianced bike builder - 10 + years in the trade and i am intregued.

If you really want them chased id give buzz and the bikery a call and see if he has the tools

Hi trail rat, I'm in cove just south of aberdeen, I had built a ragley piglet before and from memory the BB screwed in by hand until it needed a final nip up. New frame is soul by the way.

Doesnt sound like you're having the best time of it - given that you've got two threads asking about bike fixes on the go at the same time.

You got a wire brush? Give the threads a quick clean up using that if you have one.

You're right glupton, it's not been a good day, scared to touch anything else! I'll try a wire brush but it didn't feel as if it was loose debris that was causing it. Not keen putting the used BB back in now and would rather get it done right and put In new. Just got home from 8 weeks work and kinda rushed into getting the new frame together. Yep 2 threads about 2 threads is not a good day!

A city the size of Aberdeen, at least one of your lbs' must be a shimano service centre. Given the insistence of shimano (and the warranty blurb iirc) that bb's were faced before installation of their external bb's when they first came out, I would hope that an 'official' shimano service centre would be in posession of the facing took and the skillz to use it.

Cheers Julian, yes they can do it but it means waiting, was hoping to get it done in the next couple of days at the soonest, I'm not the most patient when it means I can't use my new bike!

Cheers

julian - EVERY bike shop in town has at least 6 weeks wait - its always the case - i used to work in the shops in town , its mental - shops cannot get skilled mechanics - those that are skilled - do like my self and **** off into oil as the pays exponentially better

Get an old steel BB cup, take a dremel (or similar) and cut a few slots at 90º to the threads.

Tidy it up with a file, then run it through your BB a few times and it will remove all the crap and paint that's causing your problem.

Assuming your threads haven't been previously crossed, but even in that case it will improve them.

Hi trail rat, can't see an address for you, but I'd be happy to run out by you if you have a minute to have a look, I've no bikes mates so a second opinion would be sound.
Cheers mate.

Edit, that would be 'bikey mates'!

😯

Nothing like that kind of wait down here. Long time since I got anything done in a bike shop (brake mounts faced 5 years ago iirc) but a mate has has recently his bike in and back within a fortnight of ringing the shop. I used to drop a wheel in for truing on a wednesday morning and have it back (and straight!) that afternoon. As I remember it used to be more about finding a workshop with the right tools in (ie taps, facing tools bearing presses/puller) than the time to do it in.

Sounds like a nice opportunity/market for a mobile/home/not shop based mechanic in Aberdeen...
