I’m thinking of perhaps getting a heater for the garage this winter to make winter fettling more bearable.
What have you got and what will be sufficient to heat a single garage?
Cheers
my mate uses something similar to this

It seems to work quite well.
a heater?hell, yes
and a PC and Sky TV
Now thats just showing off! 🙂
I use a little fan heater, turn it on for 10 mins or so and the garage stays warm enough for ages (unless someone opens the door). I think it's reasonably well insulated though.
Sky!!!!! I'm so behind the times
Sofa, Music system, TV, and one of those oil filled radiators. 6" of insulation and it's toasty.
I’ll look at fan heaters as I’d image that will be the cheapest option.
Many thanks
What kind of garage door do you have?
I just put the tumble dryer on with no clothes in it,soon warms mine up. 🙂

'Normal' up and over
I have a maxol one, but its a proper job with flue, tapped off the gas from the house (totally corgi registered of course....not).
remember bottled gas ones create condensation.
fan is cheaper in short term and not being used too often.
also use an electric tubular heater for the work shed, which is just set to come on when it is cold, to keep the frost out. plenty warm enough to work in.

you can almost hear those polar ice caps melting 🙂
Tubular heater, or a fan heater on a thermostat.
Ensure you have a working smoKe alarm fitted and ALWAYS SWITCH OFF AND UNPLUG THE HEATER BEFORE YOU LOCK UP.
Bikes melt in hot sheds especially ones on fire as a result of leaving the heater on.

Then I suggest that you insulate it. Apart from the risk of serious condensation, it's much, much easier to keep a garage warm if the big metal door is insulated. I use this stuff on my to excellent effect.
I've got a spinning bike in the garage. An hour on that before fettling makes it (me?) nice and toasty!

I used to think advice like this was scaremongering but having been subjected to two near miss house fires in the last three years I now take it very seriously
Mine has the boiler in it, because its integral.
Even so, in the winter it could get a bit nippy. I used the moisture barrier plastic for under laminate flooring and 'double glazed' the up and over - that and a draft skirt at the bottom made a huge difference. The bathroom above is also warmer too.
Got a almost new twer fan heater off ebay for £10.
Will aslo look at insulating the door - cheers.
I have a pretty big double garage and have found that a cheapy fan heater from B&Q which cost about a tenner to be sufficient - takes about 10 mins to heat up but I don't consider that excessive.
