Out in the sleet this evening and after a long climb - my chain dropped off a few times. Weird - I thought. Some checking showed that the derailleur cage had almost no tension? Not enough to hold the bottom of the chainline tense. Cue several more drops and then a long freewheel / walk / paddle back to civilisation.
But at least I wasnt listening to the General Election results 🙂
Anyone had similar? Any bodges fixes?
Seen this happen on an AXS, the B-tension screw backed out by itself.
It's not the B screw: I've taken it off now and its like the internal spring that usually makes the cage "snap" into its normal / closed position has failed. Almost no force is required to turn the cage. And it could just about be bothered to return to normal.
New one ordered up: trying Shimano 12s this time.
Had two X01 Eagles lose their tension, both replaced, one I've sold and one the clutch is going again. Have an XTR M9120 to go on (eagle cassette, eagle shifter).
The old 2.1 mechs were great as you could pull the tamper pin out, tighten up the clutch and you were good to go again. Shame the shimano had a patent on adjustable clutches.

Works perfectly, bike is back to being silent.
Good to know: parcel just arrived from Bike-Discount.de containing an SLX 1x12 derailleur (I cant believe how quick that was 🙂 )
I'll see how that goes with my GX Eagle shifter (and a Sunrace cassette 12s just for extra variety).
Stolen from another forum:
12s shimano 3.55 mm
12s sram 3.65 mmwhen cassettes aligned by first cog, mixing accuracy 0..+1mm
when cassettes aligned by middle cog, mixing accuracy -0.5..+0.5mm
Not a lot in at all really. I have a Sram XO1 Eagle shifter, XTR mech and Eagle cassette, shifting is perfect.

First run out today with SLX mech and GX shifter: seems perfect. Only thing I noticed was that with the clutch 'on' shifting seems heavier moving into bigger cogs. But maybe that's because I was used to the SRAM spring as it was getting weaker / failing.
SLX mech 12x1 was £48 from Germany btw.
Did you fit a new gear inner and outer?
I thought mine felt no different, if anything a slightly crisper shift. Thats even with superstar jockey wheels after the bearings in the sram ones seized.
Yep - new cables at the same time. To be honest the heavy impression was was an initial impression. By the time I got home I had stopped noticing anything gear related and was just used to it as the new normal 🙂
