I will be riding down to near Fountainhall ( halfway to Gala on the A7)for a party this weekend - the only offroad route I know of involves huge detours and I have ridden it before. anyone know any good bits?
Previous route was East on the Pencaitland railway walk to Saltoun, south thru the lammermuirs to Carfrae mill then accorss Hrtford hill to Fountainhall.
Anyone got any ideas?
How about the Waverley Line TJ? There must be long sections of that available?
Tried it in the past - heavily vegetated and some parts of it dissapear populated by killer sheep as well. Not a bad call tho
TJ - was up there lastnight (Lammermuirs) and conditions couldn't be more perfect..
from W.Saltoun (end of the railway track) you can head south through Saltoun big wood over towards Humbie then head to Leaston (farm) and start the Lammermuir part via dodd wood.
Looks gnarly GW.
Much what we did before GW - we took the climb a wee bit east of dodd wood tho
We could go south thru the Pentlands to Carlops or something but I can't see anyway to the east over the Moorfoots ๐
i like that a7 route goes right through there
Pervert Bigal! we don't do road!
look harder Druidh ๐ there's gnar to be found even there :p
TJ - sorry, meant "Brown dod wood" it's up a dirt track from leaston. do you mean Stobsheil? or way further East up to dod law.
ah but the whoosh of slicks on tarmac the wind in your face plus you can freewheel half the bloody route both ways
I've never fancied cycling the A7 Al.
that was sorta my training rides before i went abroad a round trip from edinburgh to peebles then inners, walkerburn gala and up the a7 home a nice road trip in the quiet times of the day but pure hell in the rush hour
GW - stobsheil once and from Longyester south of Gifford another time
