Hey

Has anyone ghettoed a DT Swiss E540 rim? Was it a success? What did you use? Electrical tape and BMX tube?

Will be using a non UST 2.35 High Roller, quite a tight fit so should be ok?

Cheers

Tom

I've tried ghetto with a non-UST Fat Albert and it was tight but just about doable.

I then tried ghetto with a UST Fat Albert (the non-UST tyre wasn't quite tough enough) and it was just too tight and so I ended up taping the rim instead, using 3M crossweave tape, which has been fine.

My advice is tape it up. Easier to swap tyres than ghetto and works a treat if you seal it properly. Get the rim nice a clean and stick the tape down nice and tight, under tension.

Yep. Ghetto'd E540 rims a couple of years ago with BMX tubes and Maxxis Minion/Crossmarks. No problems at all.

Excuse my ignorance, but what does 'ghettoed' mean?

it's where you use a BMX innertube as a DIY rimstrip.

In short, fit the tube and then cut the tube down the middle, fit the tyre, add some sealant, blow it up, trim the excess tube off.

Works a treat. See youtube for a demo.

Only it doesn't work a treat IME. If pressures are too low the bead parts company with the tube and hello massive burp.

UST doesn't!

'ghettoed'

its a system for converting ordinnary rims and tyres tubless. Using liquid latex to plug the holes.....
