... all 2m apart, obvs....

I’m heading there with a mate (separate cars) on the 12th, and wondered if anyone fancies meeting up and shredding the gnar?!

BPW seems out of bounds for now, so maybe the likes of @weeksy etc may be interested??

Not sure if I can persuade the boy to go riding on a Saturday. I’ll ask him.
Do you have to book?

Coincidentally, seen the December STW calendar photo?

If you can get tickets, sells out really quickly.

I’m out on Saturday. Have booked the Sunday.

I’ll be on a grey Bronson if anyone is there to say hi

Great, I've just booked for the Saturday too!

What's the setup there like? Worth me bringing a chair and the portable fire pit?

Good area for road hill climbs too, there's more than a good handful of cat4 climbs including Milland Hill, between Hawkley and Rogate.

Yep, we’ll be there. I might bring a camera and let the boy do the riding. I’ll give it a go for a bit, see how it goes 😊

Worth me bringing a chair and the portable fire pit?

They have picnic benches about the place,
... not sure if you’ll be allowed to use a firepit, not something I’ve ever seen there!

I'll be there in the silver/gold ford tourneo/Uber minibus.

Never been to Rogate before so do I bring the rigid Stooge or YT Capra?

Thought if it's a bit social, I could bring the fire pit and we could break out the mince pies and mulled wine?

Be aware they may be a bit twitchy about groups gathering especially if more than six. B1ke’s facebook suggests they don’t want to be shut down for non compliance

I can't make it unfortunately.
@dknwhy - the yt capra would be best imo.

There are plenty of hardtail riders there...but I have never seen a rigid. I'm sure someone can prove me wrong and ride everything on a rigid, but for a first time visit I would go full suss so you can give everything a good go.

Capra is the more usual bike to see there. Bear in mind its a “Downhill Bike Park”. You push up, ride down techie/jumpy lines. Check youtube to get an idea of the place. (I will not be joining DrP’s DMR chain, that is for sure!)

I’ll be on my stumpy….

Jnr has been offering to tow me in on the bottom but we didn't get round to it before lockdown II.
I think I'll be more comfortable on the Bird if I'm finally going to do the bottom 1/2.

What would you ride the Stooge on normally?
You can always take both if you can fit one inside the car. (I often do) its a bit of a drag back to the car park but if you go back for lunch then you can always swap bikes.

I'd recommend rim inserts on a HT or rigid TBH. A few of the gaps are hard edged wood...
A few of the trails will be challenging on a rigid.

They are cleaning and descaling the water heater for next weekend. (At least it's planned).
Can't see a firepit going down well (at the best of times) and TBH wouldn't be drinking before doing any of the blacks or 3 dots.

Yeah, none of the old roadside free-for-all malarkey. Carpark at the top + sign in there at the gazebo. Then come in from the S&M, Far From Ridden side. Been like this since the reopening after lockdown 1. Suits the reduced numbers and works well.

10:30 is great for us ...
Can I just check if anyone prefers I don't bring the lad?
He's not been told to self isolate but he's in the last 10 in his class.
I booked but I'll have to badger him so before I do if anyone is worried please say.

@DexB @dknwhy @DrP

it was running really nicely today ... plenty of grip on the surface but the wooden stuff including start ramp is very slippery.

I bet that's where I fall!!!

Has he been in contact with a COVID case then? Or is your son just generally smelly? Not sure what the basis of your quesiton is, soz!

@DrP Has he been in contact with a COVID case then? Or is your son just generally smelly?

I'll be smelly...I won't have time to wash the kit 😉
According to the school/PHE he hasn't... but >2/3rds of his class are self isolating another 10 were sent home today.

Unless something changes over the weekend he's back in school Monday...

Personally I wouldn't visit my 80 yr old mum with him but then we are outside at Rogate but if someone is shielding a relative they might want to shout now or take it into account. (Though he's now said he'll come)

Then again

I bet that’s where I fall!!!

Erm, yep... well lots of kids there today most of whom I assume should be self isolating (one stacked it on the start ramp = connection) so in the vast scheme of things he/I am potentially lower risk than the kids there today?

p.s. DMR ramp/whaletail wooden bit will be really horrible for grip... I can send him down to test it if it looks half sane and if he thinks I can manage I'll have a go as I haven't done the bottom 1/2 yet if you still fancy. (He's usually spot on for what I can and can't do)

thegeneralist

Goodness me Steve, was that supposed to make it more or less clear?

I added the bit (edit)... I wouldn't take him inside with my mum but he's officially not self isolating and it's outside and according to PHE the track and trace for the last incident is now "closed".

BUT based on previous communications from the school if anything does change it won't be announced until Sunday evening.

So sorry, I agree it's not clear I'm just trying to be upfront and let people make their own decisions.

Thanks for being upfront Steve.

I'd feel awful if the worst happened or it meant someone not seeing loved ones.

I don't believe it will but I think everyone has to make their own decisions on that not have them forced on them.

Such a long time since I've been on a group ride. Some mad skills shown today. My son scared the shit out of me following DrP off a ladder drop. Shame I didn't have the camera for that.
Pics from today of our little gathering. Good to see Singletrackmind turn up on his road bike too.

Cool. It's a measure of how dull my life currently is that I have also been lifted by this thread. The idea of arranging days riding with your mates seems like something from another life. I'd love to do it, but ain't going to happen from Manchester in the near future.

So I'll just enjoy reading about your day 😁

You should have said I had a spoke key in the car... and a 11sp wheel come to that ... even a spare bike amazing what gets stuffed into the car. As it turned out I also had a headset bearing so managed to help a guy in the car park over lunch and DrP managed to fit it for them.

Great days riding even if we didn’t tick off the bottom of the DMR line.

@DezB Took the full suss out after lunch anyway much easier on my old legs and back
