Got my Northwave Lizzards very wet the other day and left them to dry with newspaper in. When dried they now stink of cat pee!! So bad I cant leave them in the house.
We had the same problem with my sons footie boots last year and I know Nike had a problem and refunded people's money at the time.
My coveralls smell like catwee when i get them wet - but im told thats the fire retardant chemical they are covered in when they go for washing.
perhaps your northwaves are fire retardant 😉

Older top of the range Shimano MTB shoes used to do the same thing (smell like cat pee when wet). I think it was put down to the adhesive used in construction.
I've had that problem with Shimano M182s. They did it once really badly and like the OP I had to take them out of the house. After that occasion they were OK.
I suspected the cat at first as he genuinely wee'd in my shoes once. I hadn't done anything to offend him either.
My Specialised shoes smell of cat wee, I had put it down to the fact my cat has wee'd in them!
