Seen little in the way of chat or reviews of the new Exposure Spark light, anyone got any experiences. Was just going to go for one of the Fenix torches for commuting but with the Spark on a good deal at Wiggle (£75) and their £15 off baskets over £100 (I need other stuff) deal then it is not that much more than the Fenix.
Any experiences or anyone seen reviews anywhere?
Get a Fenix PD30, twoFish Lokblok and some rechargeables
I bought one from Wiggle last week, when they had £15 off £75/£5 off £25, so got the spark and a recharge kit for £80. I have adapted the bar mount into a helmet mount. I am going to buy a spare pair of batteries for greater burn time, but after a 1.5 hour ride (mostly on full power) one set was fine.
My housemate has an old prototype Joystick. Holding them side by side the Spark is brighter an slightly more 'flood' beam but as it's not a production model maybe not a fair test. It's still pretty much a spot though.
I have only managed to get out on one ride, but so far impressions are very good. I was using it as my only light source on the new Haldon red run (read easy trail) but was much better than my previous Tesco torch/crap halogen combo. The throw is ample, and there is enough spread to miss the trees.
Build quality is what you expect, it feels very nice and durable, and of course you have the ready availability and Exposure warranty.
For what I paid I think it is a bargain, however, for the RRP of £100, +£25 for batteries, + £19 for helmet mount if you want a nice one the Joystick is a far better idea buy I would think. The advantage of the Spark though is that you keep changing the batteries rather than recharge it.
I have just got an Airbike SL2 P7, sadly that (and I) are in Korea, and my Spark is in UK so I can't compare beams, but the build quality of the
Spark is far superior.
Hope that helps.
Am I right in tinking you can get some 18650 cells and use them in the spark instead of the CR123 things. And you could potentially get longer run times because of the slight increase in overall cell size?
I read a review somewhere, maybe Wiggle\Evans? Where someone had an issue with batteries not fitting properly, so maybe stick to the Exposure ones just in case?
I have one and it's great as a helmet light - I hardly know it's there it's so light. You can put rechargeables in it, I got 1500mAh ones on ebay to give the same burn time as disposables. They are slightly longer but the end cap still goes on OK.
