[Closed] Anyone else fed up with Truvative BB's?

New bike last May with Truvative Stylo crank set (I know - not great but came with the standard build). BB lasted until November. Replacement lasted until April. That replacement has just given up, so will be on to 4th in 15 months.

Do I keep replacing and trying warranty claim or just put it down to experience and buy a new SLX crankset with BB for £99?

I've not found Truvativ ones to be any better or worse than Shimano... Had one on both road bike and MTB.

Currently on Raceface - was constantly wondering what the hell people were whining about and then after 6 months it suddenly went from perfect to argh in two rides!

I've got some Superstar-esq prototype from a mate who was thinking fo doing something like that, will run that and then get a Hope or CK I reckon...

I've heard you can put a Hope one in with a couple of shims or adapters that will allow you to use your existing Truvativ crank. I'm on my second truvativ BB but the drive side piece had one massive dent in it from a rock strike so I can forgive it. No idea how the crank wasn't wrecked at the same time.

I shared your pain. (fwiw i have hones and xt on other bikes and for mine at least, I find the trivativ (firex) ones easiest to remove and refit and i am not the sort of rider who can tell if one is stiffer than the other.) Then i fitted enduro replacement bearings to my gxp shell and they have outlasted the last 2 lots with no sign or rumbles or play so far. £25is and if you post your dead bb cups to betd they will fit the bearings for you.

Hope do an insert so you can use their vastly superior bb's aswell.

HT:
Truvative Powerspline = 8-10 months for both, then I cracked a crank and replaced with cheap Truvative ISIS cranks
FSA ISIS = 6 rides
SS ISIS = 12 months so far

FS:
Raceface external = 10 months

Currently using the hope BB with the truvative type converter. Feels really smooth and free spinning compared to the original Truvative one. Too early to tell how long it will last.

scuttler, thanks that's spot on. From that thread you linked sounds like it may be a bit hit and miss.

So assuming the Hope shims would would work, £55 for a Hope BB from CRC, £9 for the shims - total £64. Or £83 for the ceramic bearings

Or £99 for a complete SLX crankset. Decisions, descisions

Views on the above, and views on the Hope BB?
