When I did the Fred Whitton I aimed for a post 8hr finish and succeeded.
For Ride London I'll be aiming for a post 4hrs 30mins.
Good luck all 🙂

if we're doing that, I'm aiming for post 4 hours then. Should achieve that easily 😉
Just for avoidance of any doubt. 3.5 hours is 45kph average. I'd be knackered before I'd left the Stratford postcode at that speed. 5.5 is my hope.
Seen as my average long distance ride speed seems to be ~26kph I'm hoping on closed roads and with the odd drafting opportunity that should be about ~30kph, I've no intension of stopping so with a fair wind and a bit of luck I'm hoping to be around 5hrs to 5hrs 30m
Never done it before though so all new and quite excited.
Can you make sure you're all out of the QEOP by 3pm please, I'm going to the hockey with Mrs Dubs.
Anyone who isn't is screwed, last start time is about 10am!
Quite looking forward to it now, 6am start. Hoping for more riding as a RSC than having to stop and help people!
One of our club members was one of those helicoptered to hospital a couple of years ago following a bad crash on the Ride London. He got the all clear from the doc last week 🙂
Stay safe folks and have fun!
On that basis do i rethink my 5-6 hour target and smash it from the start aiming for 3:30? I could practically roll downhill all the way to my front door from Newlands, and pick the car up another time if it all goes tits up?
Meh. Relax, take it all in, wave at the crowds, high five the kids, enjoy the sights. Life's too short for weekend warrior MAMIL heroics.
Balls-out sprint like a muddyfunster up the Mall at the end though, obvs 🙂
London and cycling with 1000's of other riders - have you just had a labotomy?
I couldnt think of anything worse.
My commute from Paddington to The Tate is enough, even when they are changing the guard at that massive council house, I would rather be in my local hills.
what did did he break - his neck?
I couldnt think of anything worse
I can - a ride with just me and one other grumpy old curmudgeon who moans about stuff he has clearly no interest in 😉

Good for you, for me part of the appeal is being able to zip through London on closed roads. Luckily attendance isn't mandatory, so you're excused.
what did did he break – his neck?
Not quite - serious head damage. He can't remember it but thinks he hit a pothole and went over the bars and face planted.
Riding through London at 27 mph is one of the hilights I’d my year. It never gets old.
Hold onto the first wave until leith, rejoined at Box then solo to Wimbledon and finish with the rest of the first wave stragglers.
Will see how it goes. Recovery from weekend is not as planned 🙁 not to put too fine a point on it , but currently sporting and extra man-vegetable sized lump in the undercarriage department! Proper saddle sore
Attacked it with a pin a good bit of squeezing?!
Needs a knitting needle! Topical potent steroids and ibuprofen. Will add dualistic acid later. May Ride tomorrow for recovery.
Topical potent steroids and ibuprofen
Have you got a TUE, or just some MTFU?
As a heads up for those intending to travel in on South Western Raikway the day before, they've just announced that due to strike action there'll be limited service and bikes won't be allowed on trains.
Starting time of 7:16 black wave A, first time this year riding for Bliss 🙂
I did put in a time of 6 n half hours but curious if it will actually be quicker on closed roads
No bikes on Waterloo bound trains on Saturday from Guildford has rather put a crimp in my plans.
Staying overnight in the Ibis Whitechapple.
7:32 black wave might have to get dropped in Leatherhead and go from there.
Unless I can come up with another plan.
Driving back through SW London is not on after the event just too much traffic
Went to collect my RSC kit and pack today, they've bumped everyone's jersey up a size "because they size up small", despite providing size charts and saying it was Castelli kit. The fact I know I'm a medium in Castelli kit fell on deaf ears because they were all pre-allocated and they only had the right number. Stupid.
I now have a slightly baggier jersey than I'd have liked!
You're riding for the Royal Shakespeare Company? Interesting 😉

Alas and forsooth, RSC means Rider Safety Captain, as well you know, foul knave!
The bagginess of my jersey has totally scuppered my sub 4 plan. On the plus side, more room in the pockets for cake.
How orange is it?

My clubmates (Woking) also picked this up but apparently SWT have had a change of heart.

Like that, but ill fitting, as they increased the size!
It's not overly orange - very black on the front, more orange on the back. Very obviously for the role, with several logos printed on. I can't see I'll ever wear mine again, but it's a nice enough bit of kit.
Those of you in charity places who have always wanted to ride alongside a World Champion, British Champion and Olympian might want to keep an eye out (though they won't exactly blend in)...

And a fantastic charity to support.
Good luck to all involved, and as has been said, enjoy it!

Is it waterproof? Forecast for rain, potentially heavy at times from late Sunday am onwards now. On dry dusty roads that haven't seen rain for weeks, what could possibly go wrong?
I'm not worried for myself of course.....being a MTBer first and foremost i haz da skillz but the roadies / occasional roadies will be like Bambi on ice!
I'm moderating my >4 hour plan to >4:10 in light of the conditions.
Mud guards it is then. Also a MTBer
Going over the station to check out the bike policy
@Nig E5 .... and clear lense glasses for when you're following people without mudguards.
pha...i expect to be back in ealing by lunch time so should miss the wet slippery chaos.
should even be a general tailwind for the run back into London.
Thats the deal with registration, I'm riding over tomorrow morning but I dont fancy leaving my bike in the 'secure' bike parking at the Excel.....can I wheel the bike in and register?
Mrchrispy no they won't allow you into the registration hall with bike (I tried!)
cheers dude, kinda expected that.
whats the bike lockups like?
not overly keen on leaving my smart bike outside while they funnel me inside and try and sell me crap
My clubmates (Woking) also picked this up but apparently SWT have had a change of heart.
they can change their mind all they like but the train line is SWR nowadays...
It's like a cloakroom system (they zip tie a tag on your bike and give you a card with the same number) in the hall next to the expo. You can register without traipsing round the expo.
helpful......
So are SWR allowing bikes on? My sources say yes?
I was concerned about the heat a few days back, now it's all looking rather wet and windy!
No bikes on trains for SWR on saturday, I called "customer services" they say no.
No but I shall be cursing you all as I try to make my way to Peaslake on Sunday morning with all the poxy road closures.
🙂
Check - Wet & windy!!
......goes to put mudguards back on bike
Harumphh...

Saturday 28 July – RMT strike action – Cycles on South Western Railway services:
RMT union strike action on Saturday 28 July means that our services will be severely reduced and capacity on our trains will be limited. As a result, we are unable to carry full-sized bicycles on our services, and we ask cyclists not to attempt to travel with their bikes, as we cannot guarantee we will be able to accommodate you.
However, anyone with a valid ticket for Saturday 28th will be able to use their ticket on Friday 27th, Sunday 29th or Monday 30th.
We are aware that some cyclists taking part in Sunday’s Prudential Ride London event are only able to travel on Saturday 28th. If you turn up at one of our stations on the day, while we will do our best to accommodate you, we can’t guarantee that your bike will be accepted on the train as space will be allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. You will not be able to board with your bike if there is no space for it to be transported safely.
Please note – bicycles cannot be carried on rail replacement buses under any circumstances.
my plan is to ride / ferry / ride to portsmouth and southsea . yes , its 5 miles in the wrong direction but the trains start from there. Hopefully I will be the only wally trying to get to london with a full sized bike at 10am tomorrow morning . if this fails i will abort and go up to register as a foot pasengr, then return home . i am lucky enough to have a sister who lives in croydon so will go to hers early evening and then drive the 19 miles sunday am and park in the docklands ncp car park.
bummer is its 12 miles out from the finish and i will be riding at 1400.. ... .... in the pouring rain
Around 5:15 for me, which I'm happy with considering I punctured and was aiming at 5:30. Didn't take a rain jacket and wasn'tcold on the ride but really shivering now.
Done! 4:57
Would have been better taking a boat! So so wet and soooooo windy
Now I spend the rest of the day on the sofa with beer and a blanket!
Good work - done too. 5:45. Pleased with that - would have liked 5:30, but pee stops and pedestrian crossings put paid to that...!
Was good fun - looks like I've got dead man's feet though!
