How did you fine it? Was it worth it?

I’m tempted.

Got a 36 with a a Smashpot in it.
It made a big improvement.

Would likley be the marzocchi kit I think mainly due to cost.

Not done it on a fox or marzocchi but smashpot in my lyric transformed it. Expensive but wow 👌

Fox 36 Smashpot conversion here, what a difference, couldn't get the air suspension to feel supple over the smaller chattery stuff without blowing through on the big stuff. Probably cos I'm a fat B'stard and the pressures I had to run were very High. Have gone down a spring since I fitted it but it won't blow through the travel as you can adjust the endstroke.

Conversely I’ve always had the same issue and I’m a skinny one. CR Concepts conversion in a Pike then Smashpot in a Lyrik (after previously running 36 Vanillas). Coil really agrees with me

Which damper do the converted forks have? Is the GRIP damper on the Rhythm up to controlling a coil?

If using a Smashpot the damper barely matters is it also provides the necessary hydraulic bottom out support

Grip damper on a 36 rhythm here with just a couple of clicks of the Smashpot’s hydraulic bottom out.

Would be in a rhythm so essentially would make it a Z1 coil.

Done it with a smashpot in a 2015 36 RC2- it's miles better, though the damper was still way too sticky for my tastes and needed sorted too. I'd not go back, that's for damn sure.

Might well be cheaper ways to do it now with there being factory coils

I just went straight to the Z1 coil for my V3 Banshee Rune. It’s flipping brilliant for the money.
Got the CR coil on the back too. Had a couple of issues with that, but it matches the front well.

I guess my only thought about the Z1, is that the grip damper isn't very adjustable. Great damper if it works for you, but pretty limited if it doesn't. I had my fork built almost that way at one point- smashpot, grip damper, old Fox chassis- and it was nearly great but there just wasn't a setting in the damper that worked for me, and I didn't want to get into tweaking it since it was quite far off. A shame as it felt great

Coils can be a little more demanding on the damper too since the whole fork is just that bit more lively so you might find you want a little more damper cleverness to manage it.

Smashpot on RS Lyrik is just great, the damper just needs something done to it.
