got a creak, happens when ever i put any power down through the cranks, so whenever climbing basically - its really annoying

apologies for bobbins vid. i spin away for a few seconds then try and put some power down, i took it on flat tarmac so to pick up the audio better but the noise isnt as loud as when im climbing properly...

this was last night, bikes still in the van so not had chance to look at it yet - but any heads up advice is welcome....

Start by greasing pedal threads, seat clamp and rails and wheel QR..

well it happens when im out of the saddle, so seat & seatpost are out. also happens if i do it non handed, so bars & stem are out too.

could well bb, because i just recently swapped my headset bearings and they were in diabolical nick! there is no play in the cranks tho.

Could be a Cane Creek.

More usefully, try splashing a good wet lube (e.g. Finish Line Wet) liberally around any potential creaky areas. A well-lubed creak won't creak any more! I did this with my semi-integrated headset on a carbon frame. Had creaked forever, then I lubed it. It's been quiet now for 2 years.. B)

By far the most like IME is the derailleur hanger interface with the frame, when they get dry they creak like buggery. Just had this on my Defy, light smear of antiseize sorts it out

I have this on my fatty. Put a new bb in (gxp graunchy) and the noise was still there! Happens when out of saddle putting lots of power down. I guess small noises get amplified through alu frames. Seemed not to do it last nights ride though. I'll try some of the fixes above.

Fork CSU is a potential / likely candidate. Try holding the front tyre between your knees and twist and rock the bars.

Just had a similar problem. The chain ring bolts were not loose!

You could have shortened that list by just saying "Bike"

Just mine that sound like that then..

I'd check pedal bearings first... saint pedals?

Little bolts holding the rear dropouts on need a tweak

My Yeti 575 drove me nuts. Creak symptoms identical to yours. I finally took the rear dropouts off, which were slightly loose as it turned out, greased the surfaces with the frame and tightened them up. Blissfully quiet bike.

Yep and Yep.

They don't! Usually start getting noisy about 600 miles. Cheap and Creaky.

It does sound like BB to Me - get another and swap it - you will soon know.

hmmm, they are the dreaded crank bros mallets!! albeit the brand new E model... be easy enough to chuck some different pedals on to check...

if it is the BB ill upgrade to a hope or something - but dont wanna shell out for that right now if its not.

im at about double that!

Do the mech hanger first (and replaceable dropouts if your bike has them), takes 5 minutes and costs nothing.

You've done well then, I've had a few as stop gaps and they've never lasted. Mine is on my main winter bike. That's said I only paid about £12 each time.

I've got Gope QRs and have discovered through some googling that (as mentioned above) if they're not on super tight there is creaking.. i thought it was my BB as i'd read bad things about race face ones.. even replaced it..

now i reguarly grease both skewers.

another candidate not seen above is the seat. i had some minor creaks ofm the seat - just greased the rails and thats sorted too.

so yes, i liberally apply grease on every bolt i ever touch now.

My press fit BB 30 started making a noise like that, bizarrely on the non drive side race, developed three rides later into me thinking I'd snapped the frame cracking noise....new BB sorted it.
